Around the Big East 19/20

For a minute thought I saw Rik Smits scoring on a beautiful pick and roll for Butler lol.

Easier said than done.
Setting screens and coming to meet the ball are easier said than done? How do you figure? Basic basketball.
It's also basic basketball to set up defenses to try and stop that from happening.

Butler will be a top 15 team by NYE. If we can somehow win tonight.... Wow!!!!!!

Carnesecca will be rockin NYE. Get ur tix now!!!

Had Nova attempted to do either and it failed due to good defense I would agree but since Nova didn’t try to set a screen or meet the ball I will assume the defense had nothing to do with it. Unless of course you are saying Kansas prevented them through some telepathic method.

Nice win by PC. On another note the Skaka Smart being the next great coach, wow that bloom has fallen way off the rose.

He's recruited pretty good, I mean he's not recruiting walk ins at UT. But he just can't sustain winning. To be fair most loved the hire, but boy Rick Barnes is sitting there at Tennessee smiling.

To me, it looked like great defense, and perhaps a little panic on Nova's part. Whatever. Important thing is the BE beat yet another P5 team.

Agree on Smart, the problem may be at Texas he is recruiting a different level player than the ones he did at VCU, players who may not buy into the relentless D he employed at VCU. I don’t see Texas play so only commenting on today’s game but Texas was anything but relentless on defense.

@MattNorlander

With college basketball’s nonconference schedule nearly wrapped up, here’s a wowing development: Butler is 11-1 and would be a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament if the bracket was built tomorrow.

Baldwin also had off day too, shooting 2/9. Solid team

Great result by Nova knocking off No.1, but Devon Dotson gift wrapped it for the Cats. Getting ripped by Gillespie with KU up 4 under 2 minute mark, compounded by a missed FT (front end of 1 and 1) and missing the final shot as time expired.

I was not necessarily commenting on the play but rather the approach Nova took that resulted in a low percentage lob to a covered player that doesn’t jump particularly well. Had Gillespie caught the ball I still would have questioned the approach although I undoubtedly would not have posted about it, something I will hopefully keep in mind for the future.

On the plus side, Kansas won’t take any of his signing bonus away.

Yes, Nova was three happy today, but shot only two free throws. Usually they get favorable foul calls in layup line aka Duke.

It’s been an excellent day for the Big East so far today. Let’s hope DePaul beats Northwestern this evening. Our RPI and NET as a conference will be high. Regardless of what happens tonight for us, if we can somehow go 10-8 in conference with a win or two in the Big East Tournament we can get a bid. It’s not out if the realm of possibility.

If the Vincentian schools can take care of business tonight, our conference will run the table, yet again. The conference season and MSG tourney are going to be very competitive. There are no weak entries.

Really can't say enough about the addttions of Butler, Xavier and Creighton to the Big East when we split away. Each of those schools has more than held their end of the bargain since they joined and made the conference look great.

Crazy thing is the Big East is still getting stronger. The newer coaches at Xavier, butler etc are getting their footing and recruiting strong. DePaul is playing great and has more talent, SJU on uptick, UConn coming back next year and the top of the league is staying put right now. Big East is still a very strong buy rating imo. It’s only gonna get better from here.

We just completed the best regular season day in Big East history. That's not even to mention the games won a couple days ago, such as Seton Hall over Maryland. My God.

Sunday, December 22nd:

4:30 PM - Prairie View A&M at Seton Hall (94.5%) - FS1
5:00 PM - Xavier (38.3%) at TCU - ESPN2 - Big East/Big 10 Battle, game 10 of 10

After today, the Big East takes a 5-day break, for the Christmas holiday. The games will resume on Saturday, December 28th.
