#65 is extremely encouraging. Keep in mind last year we made the Dance at #73. Yes, that was a major outlier (we got boosted by our Q1 wins) and we'd need to aim for top 50, but still great news.

Also, everyone besides Providence would count as a Q1 away game.

I'm sure Big East play and not to mention Arizona is going to be really tough, but if we somehow beat Arizona, Heron comes back and finds his game, Champ continues to develop, and Steere becomes a force, we may be able to be a near .500 Big East team and be a clear NIT team with an outside chance of a NCAA bid if we get a few BET wins. Never thought I'd say that in the offseason. One game at a time I know I know, but to even think about NCAA or NIT chances being hopefully 10-3 or 11-2 going into conference play is insane. Plenty of other teams find ways to overachieve consistently like Butler. They go from bottom of conference projection to the highest ranked Big East team. This is what good coaching gets you. Team play is key, not hero ball.

We may play Albany tight and then get hammered by Arizona and conference play, but one thing is for sure: CMA is getting the most out of these kids and he's all business. If Heron is ok and Steere turns out to be good, our only real lacking skill will be outside shooting. If we can get some guys shooting 3's much better this is a dangerous team.

@NJHoopsHaven

Willard said Powell has "a pretty bad concussion."
"He asked me during the game, 'Why are we practicing at Rutgers?'
During a timeout his eyes rolled into the back of his head

Willard did say Powell is starting to come around, so it doesn't sound like he's in immediate jeopardy. Still, concussion protocol ahead.
Just horrible fortune for Powell and the Pirates. Season has come up snake eyes so far.
Unfortunate yes. But, they were getting whipped with Powell in the game. SH never showed up today and they better turn the page quickly. That was ugly.
Willard is good at running cons. Remember a few weeks ago Powell had a bad injury and was going to miss several games. Magically he was back for next game against Mich St.

This maybe different but he is good at running those head games.
I know where you are coming from but I was watching highlights from I think the second ISU game and they were showing Powell getting hit in the head repeatedly. Worse than faking the injury I almost feel like they might have misdiagnosed a previous injury and maybe Powell should have been in protocol since the last ISU game. If he was concussed then and didn't receive proper attention that would explain why he might see symptoms pop up from what might otherwise be an innocuous bit of contact in the Rutgers game. I know that all sounds like Grassy Knoll type ridiculousness but it was what I was thinking when I first heard the injury news.

Champ has to improve and be more consistent with his outside shot.. Remember he's only a freshman and will probably develop some freshmanitis along the way.

I seem to get Creighton on my cable package at home in NJ a lot. Optimum. They look like a good team again this year.

Oklahoma tonight might be a big game for them since my 3rd grade geography memory puts those two states not too far from each other. Big time football rivals once too.

Seems like when schools change conferences they turn to crap.
Nebraska has never been anything special in the B1G, even RU had a few good years in the BE, now getting hammered in the B1G.
Only UL has remained good, and wvu has been ok.

Let's hope it applies to UConn leaving the American as well.

As of today we rank in top half of BE teams in rebounding (1st), blocks (2nd) scoring (3rd), steals (3rd) and assists (5th). Not surprisingly we are in bottom half in all three shooting categories: FT Pct (6th), FG pct (8th), 3pt FG pct (9th).

Yep, we are playing to our strengths, which imo is a great thing. The other stuff like shooting can always hopefully improve but those effort stats are hard-earned every game, and it shows in the stats.

Thus the need so far for Johnnies to lock in defensively and generate easy buckets via steals, turnovers. Clearly SJ is not a great shooting team, but can compensate most nights with pressure & defensive concentration for 40 minutes.

You can make the case that Maryland has actually gotten better. They weren't doing too shabby in the ACC, but in the Big 10, they're contenders for the league crown almost every year.

The same sure cannot be said for their football program! The school is making a lot more money but gave up all of their natural rivalries (Duke, North Carolina, etc).
