Around the Big East 19/20

You have no PG & you suffer consequences as PC is learning. They placed a lot of faith in Pipkins, who so far has not been distributor they need. Very poor chemistry to date with a couple of more OOC tough games V Florida & Texas to go.

Why not?

I understand you can't predict the future but they have 5 losses already and none to a Power 5 team. What team in the BE would you put behind them now? Where has Cooley ever had a non conference this BAD and done decent in the BE? You don't have a point of reference to say that. I don't think I am going out on a limb to say it's a good bet PC won't win more than 3 or 4 games in BE this year.

Previous years you would say this is going to be a long year for Providence but at least their not DePaul? Well guess what they are not anywhere near as good as DePaul this year.

Long season, I bet they salvage it.
That fact seems completely lost on some many posters.
Salvage what?

Tell me what their ceiling is?

Losses to Northwestern, Penn, Charleston, Long Beach St and now URI before conference play? What do you think their RPI is?
I notice that the other Big East schools all have played or are going to play an out-of-conference rival game. We don't seem to have one. Syracuse would fit that role, but they decided they don't want to play us, since we beat them three years in a row. Notre Dame would be a draw, as would Iona, to a lesser degree. Fordham used to be our main rival in the late sixties and seventies, but that program has faded lately. Any thoughts?
I would like to see us play all of the teams you mentioned. In addition, I wouldn’t mind establishing a cross country rivalry game with Gonzaga. Similar in some ways, Catholic school etcetera. You could do a home alternate each year. Say MSG one year, Seattle or Portland, possibly LA(?) the next. My guess is a Coach like Few wouldn’t mind some profile in NY and MSG and maybe playing out west helps us improve our recruiting image nationally.

Right now we would probably be beaten soundly as he has created a very good Program. Lots of respect for what he has done there. Just trying to think outside the box here.:)

You said it’d be a miracle if they finished anywhere but last. Personally I find that to be a stretch this early in the season. New PG, had some injury issues. Solid coach and solid home court. So much can happen.

You could be right. I just have high regard for Cooley as a coach and notice his teams tend to improve over the course of the year. He's got some decent pieces on that team and I think they will pick it up.

As for DePaul, say no more. I have watched them a few times this year and I agree they will not be in the basement.

They are the worst team in the BE right now and it's not close. That is not an argument. There is no objective person who would disagree. Could it change? Yes. Miracle might be a big strong but there is little evidence that will change.

One caveat, if Georgetown loses more players because of this scandal their season could really go south in a hurry.

Butler with a pretty easy win over Florida and Creighton up 26 over Nebraska just before halftime!

Some questioned whether Creighton and Butler were good fits for the Big East. Jury in on that one.

Will tell Matt A you say hello. He is coming north to Montreal tomorrow to recruit. NBA Academy teams from Mexico City and Africa are here for a tournament.

I've watched them play a few times and they have plenty of talent, depth and a coach who turned down the Michigan job to stay at Providence (with raise, of course), but they play without passion or energy. It seems like there may be something not right off the court.

Georgetown off to a 23-5 lead, at undefeated SMU.

Also, Marquette with a lead at Kansas St., late first half, as the Big East looks to go to 4-0 in the Big 12 challenge.

SMU look like the team they were predicted to be in the AAC (8th place). They really haven't played or beaten anyone.

The thing I've noticed again since Akinjo's departure is the Hoyas look more like a team. But they've also shot the ball incredibly the past game and a half. The former may be who they are the rest of the way. I think the latter will end up being fool's gold as the season progresses. They also still often turn over the basketball.

If a team is prone to turnovers, then they may very well find themselves in trouble versus our frenetic and harassing defenders.
