Around College Basketball

So I have a close relationship with someone who played for Marshal at a prior stop, and know several others who did as well. Let's just say this stuff isn't a surprise. I've heard about the abusive comments and "rumors" of physical altercation for years, although certainly no one was willing to come forward at that point (to my knowledge). The general view by them (and their family members who I spoke with) is that the guy is a flat-out great coach but a certified lunatic. And his wife is apparently no better, a different kind of crazy if you will. We'll see what happens now that kids are coming forward. Note that many players/families know of this rep before they send they go play for Marshall, but still do so because they think he's a great coach.

Rick Pitino and Iona College will have to wait for the start of the college basketball season after the school's COVID-19 outbreak.

According to a spokesperson for the college, all athletics are on hold "until further notice" in the wake of a superspreader event that resulted in at least 65 new cases of COVID-19 and pushed all classes online for at least two weeks.

Goodman;

NCAA Division 1 Council voted today in favor of winter athletes receiving additional year of eligibility, source told @Stadium.

There wasn’t discussion around roster size, but source said “those who exhausted eligibility will be exempted from counting against 13 scholarship limit."

With regards to the additional year for winter athletes who have exhausted eligibility, I’m also told per source that it’s “as long as they return to the same institution. They can’t transfer.”

Not hoops, but SEC has a COVID challenge
for sure;
BREAKING: #Alabama statement: "Early this afternoon, we received notification that Coach Saban and (AD) Greg Byrne tested positive for COVID-19. Both immediately left the facility and went to their homes to self-isolate after receiving that information."

The LSU vs. Florida game has been postponed due to an outbreak of Covid. I really did not see how college football was going to have a successful season because of the number of players on each team.

I love college football, but can't see ho they have a full season. What happens if your star player gets the virus. I can imagine Clemson reaching the college football playoffs and Trevor Lawrence getting the virus. This is not going to work out well.

Basketball may have a chance because there a fewer players to be concerned abut. The situation that happened at Iona, could happen anywhere. St Johns appears to be handling the situation very well. There appears to be very few cases on campus.

Here's hoping that we have a very successful season.

The way it's spelled out there is probably the only way you could do it. Otherwise next season's incoming low major players would get squeezed right out of D1.

Didn’t Florida’s moron coach just say last weekend that they should “pack the swamp” (ie sell out the stadium)?

We have posters here who think the stadiums should be packed.

Lots of coaches are old, get little sleep, and eat like crap. Not exactly pictures of perfect health, and that's before Covid enters the equation. Hopefully we don't see anything tragic happen.

Goodman;

Kansas’ Silvio De Sousa has decided to opt out of the season and is leaving the Kansas program due to personal issues.

Sources: Two Ivy League schools are highly unlikely to play men's hoops this year and it's possible the whole league won't play at all.

"I have a feeling it would be the whole league isn’t going to play," one Ivy League asst coach.

Multiple sources say @HarvardMBB won't play this year, and at least one other school is on the fence.

If there's 5-6 teams, the league would still play, sources said.

Virus is going in the wrong direction. I am afraid we may hear more of this.
