“It’s a problem,” said an SEC athletic director. “Villanova and St. John’s can pour $10 million into basketball if they want. The SEC isn’t going to be able to do that because we cannot sacrifice the cash cow of football.”
Wahhhhhh poor SEC.

The only conference / championship that matters is the SEC... I know this will ruffle feathers, but it's true. It's the only conference championship the talking heads spoke positively about. In fact, some pundits said it would be more difficult than the big dance, because the entire conference was basically Q1.
It's becoming increasingly obvious that it is all about (flawed) metrics these days.
On some level he's right. On the other hand, the football schools have an unlimited number of boosters with the deepest of pockets. Put your handkerchiefs away. I'd love the NCAA to fix the NIL free for all...but they won't do it at the expense of the gridiron giants.“It’s a problem,” said an SEC athletic director. “Villanova and St. John’s can pour $10 million into basketball if they want. But, the teams we play have to live up to their end of the bargin as well. Take our last 3 years:The BET will always be a draw.
What is critical next year, and basically every year- we need 5-7 teams to killit in the OOC portion… we need to beat teams that matter. We didn’t last year and still ended top5 due to an unreal run in Conf. Only Marq and UConn had victories of note…Creighton beat Kansas…
Have a good feeling we’ll justify our preseason Top10 ranking with big Wins early on.
A buddy of mine sent me this article. It's mind blowing. Everyone should read it.![]()

The SEC also compensates their baseball players. They have no problem poaching some of SJU’s best players, by offering them NIL deals.“It’s a problem,” said an SEC athletic director. “Villanova and St. John’s can pour $10 million into basketball if they want. But, the teams we play have to live up to their end of the bargin as well. Take our last 3 years:
This year, Baylor was supposed to be top 5, and Virginia's coach quit just before the season started, leaving them in shambles.
During Rick's first year, no one could have possibly anticipated Michigan turning out to be that bad, and the Bob Huggins situation left West Virginia in a mess.
For Anderson's last year, we had that quasi-road game against Florida St. Many thought that would be a bubble matchup, but we dissapointed, and FSU had injuries and NCAA-imposed suspensions. By the time we played them (which was around Christmas), their season had already gone in the tank.
On the other side of it, one of the probable reasons why we sneaked into the First Four during Mullin's last year, was because our win over VCU at Barclays Center aged very, very well (they were picked middle of the pack in the A-10, but I believe they were borderline-top 25 before losing in the A10 Tournament).
A lot of times, the actual strentgh of schedule turns out much different than it was intended to be, at the start of the year.
