Around College Basketball

All the P4 Football Schools are crying, give me a break. I love that these schools and frauds up in Storrs have a problem with us! I love that we are the bad guys. These schools were pay under the table the whole time now almost have to give an audit especially the state powerhouses. Only when a small Catholic school in Queens does it, it’s wrong. Love that it’s us against the world. “Say goodnight to the Bad Guy.”
This is going to be a problem for some of these schools and coaches. It’s a hard cap across all sports from my understanding, at least for now. If a school decides it want to field a top soccer program and shoot for the final 4 then they can. The SEC loves their baseball programs too but how’s that going to fly after handing out the $ to football and basketball?

Look at guys like. Nick Saban who realized he didn’t have an advantage any more in the NIL era and retired. As long as this cap is in place equally across all schools then this should be a fun time for the big east but they’ll have to take advantage of it and build their brands. I’m sure eventually this will change.

The salary cap is independent from NIL, I believe. Some of the big football programs also have donors who throw a ton of money at their B’ball programs. Whether it will be enough remains to be seen.

But wouldn’t it have to be used for legit name, image and likeness like a sponsorship deal with commercials and billboards for NoBull and not just “here’s $100k in your bank account” like they have in the past?

Either way, those P4 schools will still be more football focused.

I don’t think there are too many guardrails on it. I posted this on a different thread, but as an example, the Tyson chicken heir gave $5 million in NIL this year to the Arkansas basketball team. That’s just for this year. I don’t believe it’s getting scrutinized in any big way in terms of what the athletes need to do to “earn” the NIL.

Until April 7th

Until April 7th
I read that after April 7 schools will have to report athletes receiving NIL payments over $600, but it won’t fall under the revenue sharing cap. And there won’t be any serious attempt to justify whether NIL payments are reasonable or not. Good luck with that.

I definitely don't think it's going to function like a pro league but Deloitte will be more competent than anything the NCAA tried themselves

If it's a hard cap from "all sources subject to audit", these restriction might prevent the large football donors from throwing a ton of money at their B'ball programs if the B'ball programs have already hit the hard cap. Just thinking out loud.
