As he hinted earlier.

Ugh. Huge loss for the Big East, and Fox IMO just lost a lot of appeal. Although this is not the most important factor in our next TV contract, the Big East needs to check if ESPN could get a challenge started with the SEC (or at least the ACC). Not saying we should go all in on ESPN or anything, but maybe split the package between them and Fox.

Agree the BE has to keep challenges alive with the remaining power 4 conferences. After next season the Big 12 challenge expires. They expanded as well and may have same scheduling concern as well moving forward.

With expanded conference schedules and still wanting a national out of conference schedule, If am one of the Big 4, I would want my conference challenge to be with one of the other Big 4 conferences (I know the Big East is as good if not better but the power lies in the Power 4). It also would allow for more teams from these mega conferences to play in the challenges every year as they all have ar least 15 teams.

This is why keeping the series with the Big 12 going is important.

The Big East survived the loss of the Big East - ACC challenge (a series that many of the top coaches in the Big East who went on to be Hall of Famers didn’t want at first, boy were they wrong) and we shall survive this.

Conceptually I understand the value for the league, but for SJU nothing is lost. Unless I am forgetting something this is the first year SJU received an opponent worthy of MSG. I’m not going to miss the big Nebraska games. As you can see from next years schedule, we don’t need this.

We will be able to attract opponents as good or better without a challenge with another conference.

The value is for the Big East to be associated with one of the top 3 conferences.
