Around College Basketball

Redshirt year and covid year-plenty of kids in 6th year especially in football.
He played 2 years at Gardner Webb, 1 year at Marquette, 1 year at Manhattan. Was denied a waiver last year, and now at 25 years old wants to transfer to Arizona State. Not saying you are wrong, but this just don't make sense.

Not sure if people remember, but Jose was a bust at Marquette.

Georgia won the FBS football championship with a QB (Stetson Bennett who redshirted his freshman at Georgia, played his sophomore year at a JUCO and then went back to Georgia, played the next four years (including an extra COVID Year) finishing last season at the age of 25.

Perez can enroll now at ASU for the second semester, and be able to play the whole season as ASU is on a tri-semester calendar school year (I have a niece who is a senior there) and the season won’t start until sometime during the second semester.

“Their impact on men's college basketball, however, is growing. A decade ago, only a handful of schools were consistently going abroad to procure talent. There was Gonzaga, there was Saint Mary's, there were programs recruiting the top players in Canada -- and then there were programs that would recruit players once they came to the United States for high school.”

“This has changed in recent years, as top international prospects are no longer playing professionally overseas until it's time to enter the NBA draft, and more college programs than ever are recruiting talent from all over the world. There are a few reasons behind the trend. The biggest is the introduction of name, image and likeness (NIL) deals, which now allow student-athletes to make money while playing in college. Another is the proliferation of Basketball Without Borders, NBA Basketball Schools and the NBA Academies. Add increased access for college coaches to FIBA events, and there are simply more opportunities to evaluate a high number of high-level international prospects in competitive settings.”

He had too many teeth for West Virginia anyway.

Simeon Wilcher, St. John’s: After initially committing to North Carolina, the 6-4 Wilcher will now play for Rick Pitino in Queens. He should be a major part of the Red Storm’s reclamation project. Expect Wilcher to be one of the top freshmen in the Big East during the upcoming season.”

The author(s) make mention that NIL as one of the factors for international players coming here however the majority of international players are coming over on student visas which has monetary restrictions, and does not allow them to accept NIL funds.

The monetary restrictions only apply to $ earned in the US.

Creative minds have found end runs where the international student athlete receives compensation in their home county.

Expecting him to contribute mostly with his defense by January. In terms of talent, he’s at the top.

If he could figure it out as a frosh, that could be make the team run so much faster. Daniss, an acclimated Simeon, and Jordan on the court at the same time would push the pace. Maybe RJ at the 4 and Zuby at the 5 for those stretches, and just run past everyone.

Thanka..Good article.

More i read on Yormack's vision for B12 bball, the more I think he's playing chess while Ackerman is playing checkers with Big East.

Not that Val is awful, but I don't think anything she's shared publicly screams long term vision to solidify future as Big East being the definition of college basketball vs. playing safe and riding the wave of legacy in the conf.

She’s not even playing checkers.

I'm sensing an long lost uncle who was related to royalty died in an accident in Nigeria and Matt A can help the player collect on their inheritance :)

man... what an interaction... he did flip his story on what car he was drove to "Blackey's" in the convo with the Officer... I'm sure there are more 'experts' here that interpret body language/discourse... but to me he does not come off as an "innocent" victim the way he's speaking in this exchange

He looks terrible in this video. It’s clear as day that the common denominator for all of his problems is substance abuse.
