Around College Basketball

If Villanova had advanced to the finals of the Phil Knight classic, they would have played UConn. That means the two teams would have played three times in the regular season. Never seen that before.
I think they try to avoid it but sometimes it’s impossible. Might have been interesting if it happened and then met for a 4th time in the BE Tourney. Then again I hope they are eliminated early in that Tourney! 😏
 
Back in the 1981-82 season we beat Villanova in finals of the Holiday Festival. Then lost both our conference games later that season. Had we beaten Georgetown in the BET semis, we would have played Nova a fourth time.
 
I might be wrong on this but I think the teams for the PK events were nailed down a few years in advance, maybe before Yukon migrated back to the BE
 
Bryant just beat Syracuse by 1 point, with a last second layup. It looks like a bad loss, but Bryant is a mid-major that's usually pretty good. They were 22-10 last year and made the NCAA tournament.

Syracuse looks to be around an NIT level team this year.
