Around College Basketball (non-Big East) 2018/19

Luther Muhammad with 20 points, 5 rebounds & 4 assists in 38 minutes against Penn State last night. Having a solid freshman year.

Never thought Moses Brown would achieve such recognition early in career;

KareemAward Watch List for top centers;

Daniel Gafford
Nick Perkins
Nico Carvacho
Jessie Govan
Bruno Fernando
Nick Ward
Moses Brown
Charles Bassey
Nathan Knight
Ethan Happ

Govan might be the most complete player on that list. Happ is a horrible foul shooter, Fernando doesn't really have the outside game that Govan has, Perkins and Ward are not true centers by definition, Bassey is only a freshman and doesn't play in a great conference, Gafford is probably second. Moses Brown doesn't have the outside game and handling ability that Govan has as a big man either at this point.

Watched him play several times during the season IMO he should not be on the least. Does not give much on defense and has no true reliable offensive game.

Watching UConn currently loosing to Memphis.
Wilson very inconsistent but certainly talented and could have helped us out.
More importantly theytalkedabout Hardaways staff.
17 year NBA veteran Mike Miller = Mitch Richmond. But they also have Sam Mitchell a former NBA Coach of the Year. Why is it that it is only the members of Redmen.com that seethe need for a coach who has never coached at any level to have a grey haired/bald older / myopic seasoned Coach next to him on the bench.
SMH.

Taking shots at the student body and fans usually comes when the end of a coach's tenure is near.

Nice game for Sid Wilson today. 16 points, 6 rebounds, but UCONN trails Memphis by 4, with about 30 seconds to go.

Unless I am misinterpreting your post please point out who on our staff is a former NBA coach of the year.

Dear bamafan, perhaps my post is unclear.
What I was trying to say is Hardaway like Mullin is a novice coach. On staff he has Miller who I equate to Richmond. However he has a former NBA coach of the year on staff in Sam Mitchell who is older and very experienced, something we lack. We don’t have anyone remotely resembling a Sam Mitchell on staff. I personally would have liked to have seen that type of individual assisting our rookie coach. I was stating that it is obvious to posters on this site but yet not to out admin.
Hopefully with a new AD things will change post season.

I'll probably jinx them with this post, but have to give props to Kelvin Sampson and the Houston Cougars. 23-1 with non-conference win over tough LSU team and a win today over always tough Cincy. Their only loss is by 4 to Temple at Temple (beat them at home). These guys would probably get a 2 seed if they were done today.

Definitely a good coach and I would give him props except for the fact he is a multiple times caught cheater and who's to say he ain't cheatin now.

That's true Bamafan; had forgotten just how dirty he appears to have been with Indiana. Take back my props.

Loyola Marymount’s Mike Dunlap had some pressure on him to win this season … and he’s done it. LMU crushing Portland and Dunlap should be safe. Will improve to 17-8 overall and 5-6 in WCC play unless complete collapse against Terry Porter and the Pilots onight.

He's like Pitino -- he's so good he doesn't need to cheat, but does it anyway. Not sure if he's completely unethical, or just weirdly compelled to engage in self-destructive behavior.

I think the staff needs an upgrade but I am less concerned about an X/O guy and more concerned with recruiting. Of course you can try to get both a recruiter and solid coaching credentials. Not saying it will happen but what if a Josh Pastner got let go at Georgia Tech. Guy has a terrific recruiting reputation both as an assistant and HC. I have mentioned Kevin Ollie several times. Someone in that mold would be perfect.

As for Penny and Memphis remember his background is grass roots basketball. He is also young enough that young kids still identify with him. That is why he has made HUGE inroads in recruiting already. Mullin does not a recent background in AAU or grass roots hoops.

Always liked Mike Dunlap. Would luv to get an AC with a great knowledge of the game and also a solid recruiter.
