Around College Basketball (non-Big East) 2018/19

Eugene Omoruyi, Rutgers best player, announced after midnight that he is transferring
Played 3 years at Rutgers. He is one tough kid and a very good player. Plays PF for them
Not sure if he is a grad transfer or if he must sit out
They scheduled a game in Toronto for him to play "at home" and now he decides to leave
Big shock for Rutgers Nation but someone is going to get a real warrior

Juwan Howard has hired former St Josephs Head Coach Phil Martelli, as an Asst. Coach at Michigan. This is a very smart move, Coach Martelli has been successful in the past and can help acclimate Howard to College ball. This is what Patrick Ewing did when he hired Louis Orr.

Exactly... and something Mullin should have done at the time when he was hired and thereafter. Martelli is a good coach with a ton of knowledge.

Great moves by both Juwan and Patrick
Always good to have a veteran who knows the ropes to help a "rookie" get acclimated
You're 100% correct, Marcus, Mullin should have done the same thing
Had he done that, he might still be the coach today!!

_________

St. Joe's will likely regret that they fired Coach Martelli

They won't regret it.
They just should have done it with more class.
He wasn't getting any better as a coach, but to handle a staple at the school like that was absurd.

Just saw on ESPN that Phil Martelli is joining the Juwan Howard staff at Michigan. Interesting. It reminded me of the Lavin/Keady hire. I don’t think it worked great for us. I think Coach Keady had a very limited impact here. Wonder the impact at Michigan.

I think Martelli is a lot more in tune with today's game/recruiting than Coach Keady. I actually feel as if this is a promotion for Martelli in a sense, and am happy for him, feel like his departure was not handled professionally or properly at all by St. Joe's. Guess it's a "SJU" thing. ;)

Wonder why he doesnt just follow Buzz Williams to Texas A&M. Strange that he is considering all these SEC schools and will have to play against his old coach.

AP reporting that "chronic knee problems have forced UConn forward Mamadou Diarra to end his playing career."
