Around College Basketball (non-Big East) 2018/19

They're still getting about $3 mil or so less than UConn fans were expecting. It's pretty funny they think they still have Kemba and Calhoun at the helm in the old BE. No program has become a dumpster fire after once being prestigious quicker than UConn. They are completely lost without the right conference affiliation. They can't even COMPETE in the AAC let alone dominate it like they should be. One day they will look back and realize football was the nail in their coffin. The Big East knows what they are...basketball. That's what they excel in. The AAC has an identity crisis and is a mish mosh.
Sounds like a way overpriced and convoluted plan to kill the Big East again. Would have been better off flooding the Atlantic 10 with money.
I thought we were all so confident that Hurley was going to turn it around over there without a doubt?

That being said, I agree the AAC is a joke of a conference, and only touted on here because they are top heavy.

I think Hurley will turn it around. Probably not to the level the program was once at, but I think they will be consistent contenders again, under him. It probably won't start happening until the 20-21 season, though.

Udoka Azubuike will return for his senior year of college, Kansas has announced. Nice news for the Jayhawks.

Wow. Huge news as Kyle Guy says he is officially staying in NBA Draft. Big news for Virginia and for college hoops next season.

My hope is that every great player stays in the draft in order to give Simon a reason to return to SJU. A man can dream can he not.

Agreed. A flock of European players have declared over the past few days. This will negatively impact the draft position of Simon as well.

It does not bode well for Ponds either.

Unfortunately (for us as Johnny fans) sounds like Justin has made up his mind to begin his professional career whether in the NBA or overseas, so not sure who else stays in draft will matter as far as Justin coming back.

Simon does not have a draft position. In fact guys with jobs in Europe leaving to play in the US opens up spots for Justin. ;)

Really like the guy and wish him luck but just being realistic here.

Thanks (well sorta) for the update ... but why's it on the "Around College Basketball (Non-Big East)" thread? Almost didn't see it.

Sorry about that. I was responding to a post about Kyle Guy from UVA staying in draft and how that and similar decisions might increase chance of Justin returning to school.

I appreciate the effort Justin brought to the court and has been a class act since he stepped on camups. He owes us nothing.

That said, I am a little puzzled by his decision. We know he has not graduated and is highly unlikely to be drafted. I guess he just decided he has had enough of school and is willing to head overseas. I feel like, if he stayed, it could have been a fun year for him. He would have collected his degree and probably made himself more attractive (even if it was to overseas teams).

Regardless.......Good Luck, Justin!

While I obviously hopes that he returns to St John's, I don't think that it matters which underclassmen stay in the draft. Simon is not getting drafted regardless IMO.Nor do I think coming back for another year would help his draft position. He is a very good defender but his offense is not NBA caliber by any stretch of the imagination.

He graduates next month. He is ready to move on to the next chapter in his life even if that is overseas.

Justin Simon should do what is best for Justin Simon.

I wish him the very best in his future endeavors.
Cole Anthony as expected committed to North Carolina
Kinda neat that Cole committed on ESPN's Get Up show this morning
His parents were also on the set and interacted with Mike Greenberg
Cole seems like a nice kid - I wish him well with the Tar Heels
