Why is 'real fan' allowed back with so many different handles? He adds almost nothing to the discussions and keeps quality posters from commenting and even getting into a 'discussion' with him

All of that being said, we're not at the point where we can recruit bigs like Cuse does. They're known for bigs. Maybe Obekpa's development narrows the gap for us down the road.

If you had said, G'town is known for 'bigs,' then I'd agree. IMO, Syracuse is known for 'long players.' Their 'bigs' really doesn't do much for my taste.

That isn't the only handle he has on this site, either. But I digress.

Who said Sampson had to be convinced to stay? There was never any, inkling of Sampson preparing to jump. How about the possibility of being selected in the 2nd round is convincing enough? Sampson isn't a surefire to leave nor stay. I'm not convinced one way or the other.

I still believe Obekpa will be here for, at least, 3 years. Again.... That is my stance at this current moment.

It is bitching and complaining (I'm used to you doing so) when Lavin has proven on numerous occasions that he can get quality players.

It's August 8th, 2013. Talk to me when it's May or June 2014. We'll know exactly where we stand at that moment.
Major, you speak in terms of what you believe and what your current stance is. With all due respect your opinion is not what is important. Sure Jakarr could stay for a third year and CO should still be around but don't you at least have to prepare for the possibility they could leave early? We have been recruiting many frontcourt players the last 2 years unfortunately unsuccessfully. I would venture to say some cause for concern for our future frontcourt is not unreasonable. When we were in with these kids everyone seems very excited and when we lose out on them many here have a "who cares, so what" attitude. Let's all just hope coach can come up with some frontcourt help for next season in case it is needed and even if it is not so the following year is not loaded with neophytes.

Who say the staff aren't preparing for the possibility of a player or two leaving early? Actually, that is what they're doing.

It's also YOUR opinion that we have "unsucessfully" recruited frontcourt players. See how that works, private? Just because we missed out on some targets doesn't necessarily make it a fact that we've unsuccessfully recruited frontcourt players. Sanchez, Sampson, Obekpa, and Gift doesn't particularly sound unsuccessful.

Why panic in August when there is nearly another year left for us to nab frontcourt players for the '14-'15 seasons? That is my point.
Was referring to last year and so far this year where we haven't had a frontcourt recruit yet and have seen many of our highest targets remove us from their lists. That is not to say we won't end up with some good players just that it is not unreasonable to have some concern at this point in time.
PS Meant to refer to you as Mayor not Major. Sorry for the faux pas. :)

I could see folks being a bit concerned (a couple of folks are in anarchy)..... But it's still early-August.

We now currently have 5 offers to front court players: Larrier, Cunningham, Chukwu, Okonoboh, and De La Rosa

Of this group, who are power forwards who rate as high as Abu and Delgado? If we ever want to be competitive with the Syracuses of the world we have to be able to land 4 and 5 star players at just about every position.

Offers and interest are not the same. And it's clear that Delgado has bad advisors because that cut list is all over the place and he doesn't even hold an offer from UK.

If you don't think we can't be competitive with Cuse and even beat them this December, then you don't realize exactly how talented our current squad is.

And last I checked, we have a Top 100 player starting at every single position.

I am talking long term here. Of course we should be competitive this year with a stacked roster, but with the Cuse landing the likes of McCullough et al. and the Johnnies losing the likes of Sanchez, Sampson ( Sampson had to be convinced to stay this year) and eventually Obekpa we need to come up with some quality front court players who will contribute immediately so we don't go back into the " youngest team in the country" mode.. And no, this is not bitching or complaining. Bitching would be if Lavin didn't put in the effort which he and staff is obviously doing, this is CONCERN as fans.

You're used to me doing so? No I'm afraid that's your mindset with anyone who strays from the company line. But that's OK, I'm used to your personnel attacks as well.

Nah, fella.... Do not try to deflect, "John"ny-come-lately. I'll be sure to one day become a "real fan" like yourself. ;-)

Deflect, that's not my style, but I hope you are able to become as real and as big a fan as I am. B)

Gotcha! LOL That's cool! I've been called that several times. You generally tend to clown around, so I thought "Major" jab was a bit different from you.

An older guy at work, from time to time, calls me 'governor.' Never asked why occasionally does it. LOL

Okay.... Back on topic.

Think I made the error cause your initials are MJ.

I think the fact that this year's team has a lot of potential and Top 100 players at every position, does not mean you can't worry about recruiting. Past performance is no guarantee of future results.

They keep thanking each other too. That's the most pathetic part of all.

Bingo! He did the same under the "John 12" and "illwill" handles. He also use to "thank" his 'miguel' handle, as well.

I was told last night that one of these recent posters sound similar to him. Hmmmmmmm.... Maybe, you are on to something, LJSA.

I wish I had your level of optimism. If we fail to land a 4 star front court player for 2014. Do you think Lavin will save those scholarships for 2015 or do you think he will target less talented prospects?

It doesn't have to be a 4-star player. It could be a 3-star kid. If the player has a plenty of potential and a high-ceiling, then I'm fine with it.

He's not gonna reach for a player just to give out a scholarship. There is going to be a method to the reason a scholarship was given.

I am hoping that you can respond to my post without some sort of attack. In terms of getting a three star recruit. Three star recruits with great upsides are great to have on a team. However, they usually need a bit of developing to reach that potential and not get thrown to the wolves right away. With the potential loss of Sampson and Sanchez in the same year, that three star kid will have to perform almost imediately and that usually does not pan out well. Case in point, Christian Jones. He was a three star kid with loads of potential (as stated by coach himself) but was certainly not ready for prime time play. That's why a good program must reload on a regular basis, with top flight kids, to stay at a competitive level with the big boys.

Don't forget to thank yourself! LOL

Lets recap a bit.

As of right now we are losing Sanchez, Gift and Marco. Marco is throw away and with a lot of good guards no issues there. Obviously we are going to need definitely 1 and most likely 2 big men. Yes its POSSIBLE we lose Karr. Its also POSSIBLE we lose Obekpa. But in the same breath a recruit sees them and might want no part of competing with possible 2 yr starters.

So again while we have 3 ships to use. In reality we are replacing 1-2 players and the focus is frontcourt. For all the players we have gotten we have gotten them without really playing that well under Lavin. Win and it won't be issue. Like someone on the other board and me were discussion look at Miami. No recruiting under Laranagga but after spending the year at Top of polls look at 2014 class come together.

Agree with what u are saying and hopefully a great year will cure all recruiting ills. I just hope that there are a few top kids left at that point from the 2014 class. And with the loss of Gift and Sanchez, there are no other power front court players on the roster so the need to bring one in this year is imperative.

No other frontcourt players? I count 3 in Obekpa, Karr and Jones. Add 1 and god forbid 2 and every moves onto early start times to complain about :)

Agreed but then we have to hope that the highly touted recruits don't commit to other schools early

I only attack (your cop out word) when you spout off garbage.

I don't mind a 3-star kid having to play, as long as he is generally the 4th or 5th option on the floor. Not to mention, there are some 4 and 5-star kids who need developing. You look for 3-star kids who has the potential to get better, and who possesses a high-ceiling.

We've garnered commitments from top flight kids. Your point?
