Angel Delgado, PF (SETON HALL VERBAL)

We now currently have 5 offers to front court players: Larrier, Cunningham, Chukwu, Okonoboh, and De La Rosa

Of this group, who are power forwards who rate as high as Abu and Delgado? If we ever want to be competitive with the Syracuses of the world we have to be able to land 4 and 5 star players at just about every position.

@NYLightning1: New York lightning Angel Delgado top 5 are Kentucky ,Seton hall, virgina , florida state and fordham. Working on Seton hall visit in sept

Seton Hall and Fordham????? We are not in the running for a kid who would get IMMEDIATE playing with the graduation of Sanchez, and you guys are not concerned? With Abu taking us off his list and now this, there seems to be cause for some concern.

I was concerned yesterday when I stated its not looking good for us in the 2014 class. I certainly don't like our chances of landing Chukwu or Okonoboh

Offers and interest are not the same. And it's clear that Delgado has bad advisors because that cut list is all over the place and he doesn't even hold an offer from UK.

If you don't think we can't be competitive with Cuse and even beat them this December, then you don't realize exactly how talented our current squad is.

And last I checked, we have a Top 100 player starting at every single position.

More bitching I see....

St. John's had stopped recruiting Delgado, as they had focused their attention on Abu, Chukwu, Okonoboh, De La Rosa, and 'bigs' in the '15 class.

Stop, stop, stop, stop, Alum!

You're making too much sense.

Struck out on Abu. Will most likely strike out on Chukwu and Okonoboh too.

I never felt confident in landing Okonoboh, but I still feel there is a shot with Chukwu.

Regardless, I'm not in panic mode.

Like every recruiting insider has Chukwu to Providence.
Hopefully Sampson and/or Obekpa don't declare for the draft after this year or else we'll have a really thin front line for 2014.

The only recruiting site that mentioned Chukwu to Providence was 247sports. Although, Chukwu could land at Providence, it doesn't mean he will.

Besides, those guys aren't particularly giving "insider" info. They are just making predictions on where they believe players will land. The same group where many of 'em had Ja'Quan Newton going to Minnesota. Several of 'em also had Isaiah Whitehead going there, as well, if I'm not mistaken.

Although, Whitehead has yet to commit.... Do you really believe (or, ever thought) he's going to Minnesota?

I know anything can happen, but I don't see either Sampson or Obekpa going anywhere after this season. I could end up wrong, but that is my belief at this very moment.

If Jakarr shows that he is capable of playing in the NBA (which would mean he has a big year for us), by all means he should declare.

And we are not even done yet. You don't know how the '14 class will pan out.

I am talking long term here. Of course we should be competitive this year with a stacked roster, but with the Cuse landing the likes of McCullough et al. and the Johnnies losing the likes of Sanchez, Sampson ( Sampson had to be convinced to stay this year) and eventually Obekpa we need to come up with some quality front court players who will contribute immediately so we don't go back into the " youngest team in the country" mode.. And no, this is not bitching or complaining. Bitching would be if Lavin didn't put in the effort which he and staff is obviously doing, this is CONCERN as fans.

Who said Sampson had to be convinced to stay? There was never any, inkling of Sampson preparing to jump. How about the possibility of being selected in the 2nd round is convincing enough? Sampson isn't a surefire to leave nor stay. I'm not convinced one way or the other.

I still believe Obekpa will be here for, at least, 3 years. Again.... That is my stance at this current moment.

It is bitching and complaining (I'm used to you doing so) when Lavin has proven on numerous occasions that he can get quality players.

It's August 8th, 2013. Talk to me when it's May or June 2014. We'll know exactly where we stand at that moment.

And speaking on the topic of concern. If you were to go back to last year, we were listed with several quality front court players such as McCullough, Jarell Martin, others who signed with Baylor ( whose name I dont recall) etc, there were about 5 or 6 of them. When we lost out on all of them, posters on this site and others claimed ( after the fact) that we only had one ship to give and not to worry cause we were in with a great class this year. Well to date, there seems to be very few if any front court players we lead for in a pivotal year for the program. I believe that this year's recruiting is critical if we are to keep the momentum going from what I believe to be a very successful and exciting season ahead. If we have to rely on a big haul in the 2015 class, we will once agin be labeled a " young team" which is not a great thing at this point.

I believe you're referring to Ish Wainwright as the guy who committed to Baylor

Nah, fella.... Do not try to deflect, "John"ny-come-lately. I'll be sure to one day become a "real fan" like yourself. ;-)

Frankly, I feel we blew the McCullough recruitment. That one still burns me to this day.

Jarell is a beast but it was going to be hard to lure him away from home. And LSU put a monster class together.

We had an official scheduled with Ish but it seems like he was intent on going to a big football school. We can't offer that.

Lawrence, meh. I'm glad that worked out the way it did.

Facey. Again, we had him lined up for an official but he balked. And with what's going on with his eligibility now, this forum would've blown their top if he committed here.

All of that being said, we're not at the point where we can recruit bigs like Cuse does. They're known for bigs. Maybe Obekpa's development narrows the gap for us down the road.

Major, you speak in terms of what you believe and what your current stance is. With all due respect your opinion is not what is important. Sure Jakarr could stay for a third year and CO should still be around but don't you at least have to prepare for the possibility they could leave early? We have been recruiting many frontcourt players the last 2 years unfortunately unsuccessfully. I would venture to say some cause for concern for our future frontcourt is not unreasonable. When we were in with these kids everyone seems very excited and when we lose out on them many here have a "who cares, so what" attitude. Let's all just hope coach can come up with some frontcourt help for next season in case it is needed and even if it is not so the following year is not loaded with neophytes.

Who say the staff aren't preparing for the possibility of a player or two leaving early? Actually, that is what they're doing.

It's also YOUR opinion that we have "unsucessfully" recruited frontcourt players. See how that works, private? Just because we missed out on some targets doesn't necessarily make it a fact that we've unsuccessfully recruited frontcourt players. Sanchez, Sampson, Obekpa, and Gift doesn't particularly sound unsuccessful.

Why panic in August when there is nearly another year left for us to nab frontcourt players for the '14-'15 seasons? That is my point.
