Angel Delgado, PF (SETON HALL VERBAL)

What????

@EvanDanielsFOX: Angel Delgado just verbally committed to Kevin Willard and Seton Hall. He confirmed the news from the Dominican Republic.

So here is a kid who would have gotten immediate playing ( starting ) time with the graduation of Sanchez, and wanted to stay local and we couldn't get him over Seton Hall? Still think there is no cause for concern? Ouch

We didn't offer. We had mild interest. Still shocked he chose Seton Hall though.

Don't get the mild interest. He had rave reviews at all of the camps and regularly outplayed bigger named opponents.

Doesn't change the fact that he's a 6'6" PF with limited offensive game. He sounds like an effort machine, ergo the rebound stats. Staff must not have thought it would translate to the next level or lost track chasing the bigger fish that they though would be more impactful. It'll be interesting to see how he does and if he succeeds I think we're all glad it'll be in the BE.

Agree with your post, austour.

I think he could find his way to the NBA, but it would be after 4 years of college. He's all-effort and motor at this juncture. He has a nose for the ball and plays tough. Very, limited offensively, as you've stated. He also still has trouble consistently converting around the basket.

I would've certainly taken him, but he wasn't in our plans, as I previously mentioned. Frankly, it's not a biggie. A "biggie" was missing out on Abu.

I think this was a miss by St. John's. All indications are that he will be as good a player as Sanchez in the Big East.

What the hell are you talking about? Did you just make that up to troll the board? "All indications are that he will be as good a player as Sanchez in the Big East."???? Exactly what indications are those?

Thanks for the laugh!

Agree, with Alum and Mase on this one.

I wonder if the poster has ever seen either Delgado or Sanchez in action.

I don't ever see Delgado's game evolving to Sanchez's style of play. Not close.

The mysterious Sanchez has not played a game in the Big East. I guarantee you that Delgado will average more points and rebounds in his four year career at Seton Hall than Sanchez does this year. I do not understand why everyone thinks Sanchez will be so good.

Well considering Delgado has 4 years in college to hone his game, I think averaging more than Sanchez might be a safest bet in the world.

What games has Delgado played in the Big East? A whopping zero!

Why do you think Delgado will be better than Sanchez? Let's hear your analysis.

Have you ever seen either one of them play?

How many games did you watch him play at Monroe CC?

Answer my question (and don't lie either).... I'm guessing none by your response.

I'll have to disagree with this Moose on this one. Andrew said career averages. Sanchez is coming in as a senior and will be very productive right away. Delgado's averages for the first two years will be limited, even on a team with as weak a roster as Seton Hall. He's a little bit of a project. So especially on the scoring end I can almost guarantee that Sanchez's average this year will be better than Delgado's 4 year career average at SHU.

I have never seen ever of them play in person. I have watched the videos and read the player evaluations on the internet. I stated that Delgado will be a more effective college player than Sanchez. It sounds like you agree with me but just want to be difficult.

I've seen Sanchez play several times, and watched Delgado last month. No offense, but I trust my eyes versus your "evaluation." I guess we're entitled to our own opinion.

If you think I agree with you, then you're sadly mistaken.

We can revisit this in a couple of years as that will be the only way to know.

I don't need help reading. I know he said averages. Hence why I said 4 years to hone his game. And why would Delgado's averages be limited in his first few years. We know first hand about inflated averages on bad teams and he will likely run into that at Hall. Sanchez on the other hand has a multitude of options around him and just one year to do it in.

Your right the safest bet in the world would be career numbers. But career averages are still a damn good bet as well

Sanchez is the odd case because his senior year is his only year but the normal progression for a 4 year player would see his senior averages being better than averaging all four of his years.

So you're sticking to your assertion or maybe your not? Not sure what you're trying to say.

I'm sticking with disagreeing with your original statement and with Andrews claim. Because if Delgado averages 5 and 8 his first two years and Sanchez averages 14 his only Delgado would have to average 21.5 his last two to tie Sanchez and that's surely not happening. That's the way I'm seeing it.

Andrew was talking about points AND rebounds by the way.
I'll stick by what I said. And I'm sure you will put this away in your memory bank and bring it up 5 years from now because I sure as hell won't remember it next month.
Also by the way this only applies if Delgado goes to Seton Hall

Here is a tweet from one of our board favorites that nobody is really talking about.

Lets remember that Delgado was ticketed to an Atlanta school for his SR year this spring but then changed for Huntington during the summer.

Bingo:

@GoodmanESPN: Key factor in Seton Hall landing Angel Delgado is his relationship with Oliver Antigua - who is likely to join Kevin Willard's staff.

I have a slightly different view than most on this...I still want to wait until the end of the period before we judge Lavin's 2014 class...there's a lot of time left. I think Seton Hall getting a little better is a great thing for the conference.
