Anderson and Demeo's Lawsuit updates?

I would be shocked if SJU did this without having something or multiple things of substance. But then again, it wouldn't be the 1st time that SJU shocked me.

On one hand, I could see Oliva getting overzealous and completely screwing this up. On the other hand, I can't imagine Shanley not taking a measured approach. It may take a while, but I guess we will eventually find out.

The Mike Anderson era was undeniably awful. That said, I had a number of small interactions with his family when sitting next and adjacent to TJ's wife and their two boys, as well as Mike's wife. These are good people. I am sorry his career is ending this way.

Anderson should be suing those responsible for allowing mikes and cameras in his team huddles when his only instructions were “ hit the boards” and “ play hard”. It made one wonder how he had reasonable success at prior schools
He came across like the wizard of oz with the curtain pulled back. His teams played terrible half court offense and now it was evident why. His whole strategy was pressure defense and big east coaches are too smart for that to work continuously.

was thinking St. Johns most likely has evidence and I guess a friendly phone call to Demeo who is suing anderson is going to help us. Demeo's own lawsuit proves that what anderson was doing was wrong. Lets connect those dots. SJU has an excellent law program so im not worried. The law program probably has more big east wins then our basketball team did with anderson. Funny how only his arkansas players are coming to his defense, no current or former SJU player of his.
I'm going to guess that the same SJU lawyer who is leading the termination with cause justification is the same lawyer who approved and negotiated Anderson's "Ironclad" guaranteed extension in the first place.

If anyone is to be fired with cause it should be ____________________.

(Let's play match game with Gene Rayburn)

I don't want to be scummy about this since both guys should probably be paid, but could you get out of paying Anderson over the DeMeo issue? (Assuming DeMeo wants less money of course.)

As in, you admit guilt in the illegal DeMeo firing, but blame all on Anderson . . .

Bottom line is this makes anderson look petty. Not the lawsuit but everything he said. Like a kid that got in trouble "well Rick did it too". Our grades were good 3 years ago. My dog ate my game planes . It was the butlers fault lol

This is how lawsuits work. The tactics and the amount of $ being sought are just postering and are all part of a routine process (for attorneys). I wouldn't make any character judgements based on the language in a suit.

I'm under the impression that something that would have cost us $11-ish million to make go away now seems more like $15 million and associated bad press.

(Not a lawyer so those who are should feel free to chime in.)
If this ends up costing a penny more than his contract including our legal expense whomever's idea this was needs to be fired unless it was Fr Shanley which I'll get over since he got us Pitino

Probably Cragg doubling down on his extension fiasco 😉😊🤣
Honestly, you raise a good point. It really is unconscionable that Cragg gave Anderson the extension. And it runs contrary to the narrative the school is currently pushing.

So after determining Anderson was a high character guy and a great coach worthy of a big extension, the administration belatedly realized Anderson was a bad coach that engaged in misconduct worthy of being terminated “for cause”?

Either the administration/Cragg was totally asleep at the wheel when they gave Anderson the extension or the school’s current narrative is at best exaggerated and at worst, false.

I guess the third possibility is the comment attributed to Oliva that Anderson’s mental facilities have diminished in the two years following the extension, but I don’t buy that.

Anderson was given the extension after winning BE coach of the year. Had he not been given an extension and was poached by another school people would be criticizing Cragg for not having locked him up. Perhaps other schools were snooping around which we were not aware of.
It is very easy to look back some two years later at what was done. However, I bet if we look back at many a post after Anderson had been extended it would not shock me if the sentiment on the board was very positive.
Coaching is a tough profession. The Bucks just got rid of their coach 2 years after an nba title and a great record this season. Raptors just got rid of their coach 3 years removed from an nba title and it was not his fault KLeonard decided to leave town for LA. Rivers may be coaching his last game in Philly if the Sixers don’t advance, but yet he has had 3 very good seasons.
Cragg was in a very tough position and I doubt he could have signed the extension without many of the higher ups on board with it.

Agree and I'm relatively sure I was for the extension. Just no buyout was not smart

Without knowing all the specifics and nuance, etc, I was all for the extension. Like him or not now, MA had a good track record coming here. A pattern of descent on some level, but I thought he would raise the floor consistently even if the ceiling was limited. Year 2 we finish 4th in the league in the regular season, I believe. He had landed Champ and Posh, the former coming out of nowhere to look like one of our best recent players, and a guy who became an all BE first team type player and now in the NBA. And snagged Posh at the 11th hour from Seton Hall, who recruited him as their PG in waiting for YEARS, only to have Posh win BE POY and DPOY. Coming off that season with him winning COY in the league, even with the disappointing loss in the BE tournament, I was happy we extended him for all those reasons. I thought year 3 we would be dancing, the trajectory was positive, and that MA would be a hard working coach, which seemingly was a problem for at least 1 and in some eyes both of the prior 2 regimes. In retrospect, perhaps all the movement after year 2 should have been a bad sign. But I still thought that was a red herring because there were explainable reasons for all those moves -- McGriff being recruited over, staff realizing Cole couldn't play at this level, Moore being a problem-child, Roberts going down to a league where he would be a more impactful kid, Williams going "home", also down a level, and my favorite the Duke going to a situation where he could be a 3 instead of a small ball 4/5 and be a primary option.

I didn't see the last 2 years coming, especially after we brought in Wheeler who I thought would be a really good compliment to Champ and Posh (which he ultimately became, even if it took a bit), Soriano, and Stef Smith who I also liked as a compliment to those 3.
