Alumni Game / Midnight Madness

I sure hope they take practice and games a whole more seriously than they did tonight.

Always a circus, but get what you are saying for sure J.

I get that it's an 8 minute half showcase, but half court shots while wearing a hoodie? That's a whole new level of "I don't give a crap"

The hoodie is Ponds’ way of copying Melo. The videos and workouts that made “Hoodie Melo” famous were pickup games that Ponds played in.

Figured one of the younger guys would get it. Neded my 14 year old son to explain it to me.

SImon is a freak out there. One of best athletes we’ve had. Great vision over the top but his handle looked a little shakey.

Clark likes to shoot from perimeter but as long as he can help battle bigs defensively and rebound I don’t mind.

I'm all for this, but as soon as Fox News gets wind of it they will go into attack mode and three different shows will lead with it.

Do we really want anyone copying Melo?

And somehow connect us with Harvey Weinstein. :)

Back to the Madness ... a good time for all, including recruits on hand?

Same here, disgusting.
Good to bring some thug rapper off the street to cater to all these fans who will never attend 1 basketball game.
Completely embarrassing.
Already have a call and email in to administration.
They will lose a lot of my money.

No D in sight.
Don’t know whether I should reply with
“Get used to it”
Or
“You should be used to it”

I was hoping they'd use the midnight madness scrimmage to work on the triangle and two under the pressure of a real life game situation. Disappointing.

Wow Manhattan1
Thanks for input.
I was not there.
Highly distasteful way to start to season.
The school could not screen the happenings and the invitees?
Nothing new - one extreme spectrum endowed with the right to critique all others - especially those who do not agree - Much of Hollywood Wow. Some Athletes Wow. Politicians opposed to anything and everything this administration will do even if it is clearly in our interests Wow.
Hey may be we should take down the Lapchik statue before it ever/even rises.

Maybe we should rename the basketball arena since Louie C. has positive feelings for Colombus. And Louie prayers.

St.Johns and any moderate fans are so politically incorrect.

I am fan, not a SJU grad nor am I connected with the school but I would be interested if any reaction/response to that behavior is forthcoming. We can do a better, more wholesome job, don't you think?

PS and I get that SJU is not the only college or organization going through such controversial "things"
Nevertheless SJU should take care of her own business. Oh wait, gender neutral, "it's" business lol
Jesus Mary and Joseph also "it's"
not so funny .

Sadly predictable display by a thug rapper. St. John's should be accountable for sponsoring such nonsense.

All I want is for Slick to learn how to play some defense because neither his coach or team took it seriously last season.
Last night they were all allowed to be college kids.
Game time they better become men.
Two players who impressed the most last night were Amar Alibegovic and Mikey Dixon. Both stayed focused and did nothing hoodie-like.
The only way three quarters of the students from last night attend actual games is if they are free and include a clueless rap "artist". ;)

I agree that is disgusting and inappropriate behavior. But are we surprised? Our society and culture has been descending into the vulgar for generations, becoming more coarse, more strident, and more shallow.
Right or Left. Believer or atheist. White or black. 'Educated' or ignorant. Rich or poor. See it for what it is.
Our country is living through a slippery slope of what is right and appropriate and classy versus what is wrong, disgusting, and vulgar since the 1960s--when the youth culture forgot what constituted civil and constitutional protest and morphed into storefront hippie themes comfortably held mantras that were hollow and shallow and collapsed.
The late / great Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan captured this phenomena with his 'defining deviancy down' concept.
We continue to live through it.
I will say a few things: 1) It was wrong to do that vulgar display--counter with ideas, not social dystopia; 2) But also totally unsurprising--and even expected--given what the country has become and where it is we find ourselves. 3) I must say Donald Trump is the poster boy for bad taste on numerous fronts and the master of dystopic behavior--but there is the right way to protest and the wrong way--and giving the finger and howling is wrong and gross. 4) How many of us would have reacted with this umbrage and outrage if the students had been holding the Middle Finger up and howling at Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama?
I pray as many who today are spewing vitriol in disgust--rightfully so--at the students' behavior last night.

I don’t think the administration could have foreseen what happened. That said. I wish these entertainers would keep their mouths shut. I don’t give a rats arse about their political views. Furthermore, I find it offensive when politics is brought into a football game, broadway play , etc. Also about 50 percent of the country voted for trump. These entertainers could loose fans because of these views ...Sad and inappropriate for midnight madness and in general.

Valid points CD, but people need to stop using Trump as an excuse for abhorrent behavior. If my kids acted inappropriately and tried to use anyone else(even the President) as an excuse for doing so, they'd get a good whack upside their head. I don't think it would have been to much for the administration to make it part of the their contract with the performers that there be no vulgarity, no political statements, etc. Aside from all else, we are still a Catholic School and there were also children in attendance. What ever happened to "good clean fun"??????
