Alumni Game / Midnight Madness

I truly have no desire to lock this topic as I would much rather read the meaningful debate on midnight madness , the recruits in attendance , who looked good , any improvement spotted , any lack of improvement , any coaches sitting on tables, Jordan Brown, the great job panther2 did in organizing the Alumni Game , the entertainment, student energy , etc. However, I truly have no interest in reading about Donald Trump, who started the political mess the country is in, and the personal insults that have taken over this thread. I ask that you please stop.
Thank you for your cooperation
So basically you just said enough but then rip the president on your way out! This was going on way before trump it was just that people knew how to deal with it like normal people!!

Where did I rip the president ?
Please reread the thread. " I said I have no interest in reading about Donald Trump, who started the political mess .... " .
Please where did I rip the president ?

I guess the reader didn't pause at the comma.

correct , they were completely different statements seperated by the comma. I never blamed President Trump or anyone for the political mess the country is in. The same way I don't blame anyone in particular for the political mess I believe Canada is in.

When I first read your post(quickly) I thought the same thing as others, and was surprised. Upon a re-read it is quite evident that you did not rip Trump.

I also did not pause at the comma and am glad the post was in fact politically neutral.

Maybe I misenterpreted your post. But I took it as you were saying Trump started the political mess, which is tantamount to ripping the president IMO. You made a valid point but should have left out the aforementioned statement. Especially if your plea is to stop talking politics. But, as you said, I would prefer to keep this thread about midnight madness.

You absolutely misinterpreted what I wrote. I can't believe the lack of reading comprehension on this thread. I said let's discuss midnight madness and gave a bunch of examples of what could have been discussed. Then I said " i don't want to read about Donald Trump , who started the political mess.... ". They are two distinct statements separated by a comma. If I wanted to rip the POTUS I would not have inserted a comma.

Maybe you have a hard time with basic English, or you don't know when you are "ripping " someone. Would I be ripping Obama if I said that it was Barack Obama who started this political mess. Because he is the one who started it all. Without Obama there would be no need for Donald Trump.

With RN's permission, let me spell this out for you in basic English:

"I truly have no interest in:
1. reading about Donald Trump,
2. (reading) about who started the political mess the country is in,
3. and(reading) the personal insults that have taken over this thread"

Got it now?

Your post was confusing when skimmed over. I will say one thing . As bad as my reading comprehension is. I understood your explanation when you first stated it a few posts back. Nevertheless, it was just a misreading of what you wrote. I also read Kranmers post before yours.

Sorry, still bad English on your part. The "who" after your comma can only relate back to the Noun in your statement which is Donald Trump. I get your explanation, but you should have worded your statement better.

OMG......I believe this post warrants locking the thread.

Next time someone wants to say I take threads off topic I'm just going to refer them to the midnight madness thread

You're right about the placement of the comma. I picked up on that immediately, but didn't want to sound too picky ... which I'm frequently accused of being. :)

Soooooo, I guess this year's event brought new meaning to "Midnight Madness "
Hope we can just get back to basketball related talk

Expanding upon what The Honorable “Redmannorth” said you should expect that your post will be deleted if you make childish insults or post racist innuendo in this or other threads.

This site was created by “pmessell” to discuss basketball related topics and not to discuss politics or to hurl childish insults. When you were given the privilege to post on this site you promised to abide by certain Rules which prohibit many of the posts contained in this thread.

Capiche?

Kudos to the moderators This thread had you guys working overtime. Unfortunately it took my posting the lyrics to one of Dave's most popular songs to get things back to the basketball aspect of the festivities.
Bottom line is St. John's has devolved in recruiting from impressing recruits with their tradition of hard nosed basketball to using rap music artists to impress African American teens into gaining an interest in the program (and school).
The music doesn't faze me. It didn't faze me when I cheered the lyrics of "Up against the wall redneck mother" or when I first saw David Peel perform "Up against the wall Muthafckr" at CBGB in the late 60's. Like Dave East, and rappers in general, David Peel and The Lower East Side Band freely used lyrics about marijuana and "bad cops" with the "F" word and appealed mostly to hip kids and disenfranchised white kids. Hip hop artists do the same shtick but the audience and the music has changed.
The point? St. John's would not have invited David Peel in 1969 to impress its many white targets from the city CHSAA to impress them and their parents because we didn't have to. We had a real basketball tradition to be proud of.
The latest trend which Mullin seems to support, while entertaining for the students, will not close the deal with recruits and only upset older fans.
Maybe if he and his team play competitive basketball in the future our midnight madness will look more like Duke's or Kentucky rather than North Carolina A&T.

  why am I not surprised somebody from the class of 72 can’t tell you how Kentucky uses drake ( who talks about smashing and leaving women) and Future ( the creator of dirty sprite legendary 2) for their midnight madness.

Let me guess, Georgetown using Meek Mill is classier to right?

Side note: North Carolina A&T rarely does a midnight madness anymore. But again class of 72

Surprise 13 I CAN tell you as I watched some of the UK festivities on the SEC channel recording from the box on my 17 inch black and white RCA television. :p
UK's event was not a rap event and 90% of the fans were "FANS" of big blue nation and didn't need to be coaxed into attending. Had UK had an alumni game you wouldn't have had a 1000 fans watching while the other 4000 were arriving later to hear a rapper.
Again, I have no issue with the music, it's message or the performers. Been there, done that, unless you misread my missive.
What you and a few others are missing is the fact that hardcore fans don't give a fck about Dave East, Northwest, or Southeast. Recruits get impressed by the staff and the players who need to make them feel comfortable. I doubt we have closed the deal with any recruits because of a 5 song set by a foul mouth artist.......especially if that recruit or his parents are born again Christians or practicing Muslims. ;)
Again, I personally enjoyed the event but now is the time to get down to business. ........like learning how to play defense.

There are thousands of forums where people can go and discuss politics......find em If that’s what you wanna do. For now let’s get on to the business at hand, my football and baseball seasons are long over!

Next time someone wants to say I take threads off topic I'm just going to refer them to the midnight madness thread

You showed amazing restraint by not mentioning lobster rolls or IPAs when you had every opportunity to do so. ;)
