All Realignment Talk Here

plus, if we add Dayton fits with the BigEast-midwestern brothers like Xavier, Marquette, DePaul, ((Butler)), and the further out-there Creighton.
Omaha is practically dead center of the continental US.
Do we worry at all about having more midwestern schools than east coast schools? Would be 6 and 6 with Dayton.

While Dayton would be a likely choice if/when(?) the Big East decides to expand, the league (not just Val as Commissioner but the school Presidents) seem to be very satisfied at this time with the status quo. They were happy with a 18 game round robin season only agreeing to 20 because UConn rejoining the league was desirable to them. An exception probably would have been made for Gonzaga but they had no interest.

And I agree with them. No real needle movers east of Gonzaga and available.

I don't really mind because you can make an argument the midwest is more passionate about basketball than the northeast. Dayton is right in the corner of that crazy Indiana/Kentucky area.

Gonzaga a profile fit, but geographically unsuitable. I liked the original BE east coast lineup.

Don’t you dare give them that crown!

My point was more about those east coast school, do they want to be in a conference that isn’t majority East coast?

Hate to say this but don't think the schools have much of a choice if its what the TV suits ultimately want.

Agree with that. Not sure those mid west teams will move the needle there. Grow past the round robin format and you have to ask, how many St. Louis vs Butler games would draw better than Butler vs the current other 10 schools? Just an example and there may be better choices than St. Louis. Just don’t think we will only add 1, unless that 1 really benefits the collection of games. Add more than 1 and schedules start to get worse IMO, and that’s a lot of what the TV guys want.

I still predict we get Notre Dame. I don't think they want to join a conference full-time, but by leaving the ACC, they can join the BE in every sport but football/do a scheduling arrangement with the Big 10/SEC. ND's also very close with NBC/Peacock, and that's exactly where most of our games will be on. And if they're ever reasonably good, they'll definitely out-draw the bottom of the BE (DePaul, Butler, etc.)

And that would be the holy grail 🙌🏼

Val also said she'd keep the round robin if we added one more team, which would be terrific. It would take a lot for me to be excited to add more and sacrifice that.
Agreed. She also mentioned that 2 more games against someone like a Dayton might not be as beneficial as two big non conference games. Also said that plenty of schools have reached out trying to get into the BE, no surprise there.

Can Bamafan talk to me here? I went to Dayton last year. Might rank up there as one of the worst cities I've ever been to in this country. I don't get it. Has it changed? How do they get people to go there and support that team. Always amazed how well their fans turn out. Even for First Four games where they are impartial. City was dreary and depressing and sleepy would be a compliment.

Being the home of aviation with the Wright brothers, Wright Patterson Air Force Base, home of National Cash Register are nothing to shake a stick at! 🤪 Think you answered your own question nothing there bigger than following Dayton hoops.

More Maher facts. My back needs alignment so that’s on topic.

But going to your post. All true stories. mjmaherjr while travels all the time I hate to fly. My parents haven’t flown in 20 years. Yet my brother wanted to be a pilot since he was like 5 and got his pilots license for airplanes in either high school or early college and is a helicopter pilot.

The Reason why I tell this story its on my mind now on my moms dads side of the family we are related to the Wright Brothers. Who’d have thought but kinda weird how my brother and my sister in law are both pilots and my 3 year old nephews every time they see a helicopter or plane in the sky point towards it

On my moms mom's side of the family we are Harrisons related to the president who had the shortest presidency ever. That's why I'm humble. You never last long at the top :)
