All Realignment Talk Here

good to see these marketing "experts" and people in leadership positions chose a name that limits themselves to only and "athletic" conference. so moving forward these schools wil only be know for their athletic atributes and not their academic attributes.

Idk if anyone has noticed but the SEC is now not only branding itself as a power athletic conference but also as a conference with common academic higher learning goals. I would love to see the Big East take advantage of this opportunity as well.

make sure you go to the american athletic conference's annual career fair, hahaha!!!

Are there any conferences that exist which aren't put together because of athletics?

Rutgers blogger is extremely optimistic about next season for basketball. Has anyone pinched him yet? He needs to wake up...they just lost essentially their best players and they are moving into a conference with Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Wisconsin. A more legitimate question will be: which sport will be more pathetic in the Big Ten for Rutgers...basketball or football? They are going to be the DePaul in their conference for basketball and laughingstocks in football. While it's nice to be in a conference that loaded, it also means if you're a Rutgers fan you better hibernate for 5-10 years before they catch up to some competition in both sports if they ever do.

I think the have one year in the AAC. That being said, there is still no way they finish any higher than 5 in that conference.

Any talk on adding an 11th and 12th team? My personal hope is adding St. Louis and VCU, but I think we definitely need a 12 team league.

Won't happen after 1 year.

I think it will be all up to Fox and they have a lot of programming to fill. I think an extra $10 million per year for them is doable.

from Sports Illustrated:

The real reason the Big Ten Added Maryland and Rutgers

Could not find a date for the article but this is the absolute oldest of old news. I am a Rutgers football fan and I have no illusions that RU was invited to the Big 10 for their success on the field. Any college football fan knows they have underachieved when they have talent or been a doormat for a long time. Every college sports fan knows they have as poorly run an athletic department as there is. The offer by the Big 10 was about the money; in this case potential money, but exclusively money nonetheless. And in truth no one in the Big 10 offices REALLY cares if Michigan fills their stadium or not; it is all about the TV money plain and simple. Since when does any fan anywhere matter??

The first line of the article reads "story appears in the June 23, 2014, issue of Sports Illustrated".
