I don't place any blame on Lavin and staff for KT or Adonis not qualifying. The Westchester CC situation affected more than just us, and when the NCAA Eligibility Clearninghouse cleared Adonis, it's considered done (right?). The fallout is that these are two major headlines because we had a weak recruiting class. If it happens at Syracuse or UCONN or NC with these same players it's not even a headline, it's a side story. So even if we are in no way at fault, we look bad as a program. The timing of this smells like a rat.

Can I get a roll call from the folks who said Adonis wouldn't contribute this season?
I remember most things, but can't quite remember who were the one's saying such. Be honest.
The sky is falling, the sky is falling.
Let it play out.
So it appears according to reports that this has to do with his high school grades. Now, I sit and wait for someone on here to find a way to blame Lavin....
If he was a top 50 player then you take a chance on him. If he's a marginal talent then you pass. The coach should no if the kids he's recruiting will qualify.

But again it comes back to the fact that Lavin inexplicably ignored the 2014 recruiting class. He was well aware that Sanchez and GG were graduating. He also must've had an idea that Sampson was looking to get out. And yet he made the conscious choice that recruiting bigs wasn't really the priority (or anybody for that matter). Then, he proceeds to turn around and go after KT and ADR (both of which had academic flags from the very beginning). If you want to say that the clearinghouse was wrong, that is 100% fair game. But the fact remains Lavin knew he was going to be shorthanded going into 2014-'15 as far back as the beginning of last season and basically did nothing to fix it.
Could you imagine if Obekpa had actually followed through with his transfer?

Kind of like thinking there's know difference between no and know?
You're an educated man it seems Beast. You don't find Lavin at least partially responsible for the situation we find ourselves in? Down to one Center, and two PFs with little experience.
Granted, this happens at other programs. But it does seem to happen more frequently here, and when we can least afford it. If you knew Keith Thomas was an academic question mark (and it sounds like most opposing coaches viewed him that way) wouldn't you be doubly sure that the freshman center you are bringing in is going to be qualified?
It's not all Lavin's fault, obviously. At the end of the day the kid and his parents need to exercise some personal responsibility. Being NCAA eligible is not a difficult standard.
But I'm interested to hear from some of the staff's biggest supporters, how much if any blame they assign for this.
so its his fault? other schools, including Fordham, offered this kid...

I didnt expect much.
I do think this counts as another strike against SL, but it's not accurate to say losing Adonis will cost us the season or anything like that. He wasn't that important to the team's plans.
Regardless of what happens with IB on Thursday, this is becoming an absolute joke. Every year it's transcript problems or eligibility issues. First and foremost, this is a college and from afar I'm getting a feeling that the staff doesn't give a rat's ass about it.
I hope the higher ups get a compliance officer on this because it's making the school look like a joke.

Could you imagine if Obekpa had actually followed through with his transfer? We'd have JDR as our starting center. Honestly, what a joke of a situation. I really hope IB signs here on Thursday because it'll be a rare positive note around this program. But I'm sorry, this is an absolute disgrace by a staff that gets paid a significant amount of money.
Per otis, Lavin didn't ignore the 2014 recruiting class. He just couldn't close. So, which is it? I doubt you know, but it sounds good.... to you.

MJ,
The above statement regarding Mr. Lavin's multiple strikeouts during the 2014 recruiting cycle is based upon information provided by Rivals. According to Rivals, Mr. Lavin and his hard working staff made 15 offers during the 2014 recruiting cycle and only ADR accepted his offer.
Here is a list of the players which Rivals lists as players who rejected Lavin's offer during the 2014 cycle:
Tyrelll
Mudley
Cartwright
Whitehead
Williams
Carrington
McCullough
Larrier
Cunningham
Chukuou
Okonoboh
Dastrup
Jackson
Greer.
Note the above list does note include the several transfers that were identified on this site.
Note also that Rivals lists also 15 players who Mr. Lavin has offered this 2015 recruiting cycle and as of this date none have accepted his offer despite the fact that there will be at least 6 openings next season. Ten of the 15 have already committed to another school.
Although I share your hope that Briscoe commits this Thursday that will still leave 5 more roster positions to be filled with not a whole lot of uncommitted players left.
Some sort of doom organ music. I see Otis as the Undertaker as a wrestlerPer otis, Lavin didn't ignore the 2014 recruiting class. He just couldn't close. So, which is it? I doubt you know, but it sounds good.... to you.

YESSSSS!!!!!
I wonder what entrance music Otis would have in the WWE? I wish there was a theme song would play every time someone read his posts.
