Adonis De La Rosa,

@Hoyas247: Per a source, #Hoyas have upped their recruitment of '14 C Adonis Delarosahttp://t.co/v3CInCgaSa via @247Sports

Is this a Yukonesque move like the Wiggins recruitment?
Wiggins was a long time verbal, has Adonis committed-no so I don't see the comparison at all. He is still fair game and is being recruiting by many schools.

if nothing else a little psychological warfare putting this out right before our game. It seems to have worked very well. ;)

@CNG_Staszewski: CK-St. Rays. No Adonis Delarosa for CK. He was late to school. Andre Walker back in the line up for the Royals. #chsaa

Suspended a game for being late? He'll fit right in at SJU. ;)

Andre Walker is damn good. Whoever gets him is getting an explosive heady NYC tough PG.

There were Division I guards and athletic wings on both teams. But on Friday night, it was evident there was one big thing that separated Christ the King from host Archbishop Molloy.

His name is Adonis Delarosa.

The 6-foot-10, 270-pound dominated in the paint and helped lead the Royals to an 83-76 victory over the Stanners in a CHSAA Class AA content at a packed Jack Curran Gymnasium.

“I knew I was the biggest guy on the floor,” Delarosa said. “I said this is my bread and butter. This is where I’m going to take my advantage and I imposed my will tonight. I figured if I go right under the basket, these guys couldn’t stop me.”

Delarosa scored 12 of his team-high 18 points in the third quarter, turning a 13-point halftime lead into a 64-39 bulge in the third quarter for Christ the King (9-1), ranked No. 3 in New York City and No. 4 in the Tri-State by MSG Varsity.

“I think he did everything great for us,” Christ the King coach Joe Arbitello said. “Forget the offensive stats, he set screens and took charges and if he continues to play that way we’re going to be very good.”

Delarosa, who also grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out four assists, came to Briarwood highly motivated after a loss here last year.

“I came in here with that on my back and said listen I’m not leaving this building without a win,” Delarosa said. “As soon as I saw Molloy on the schedule, I said they’re done.”

Delarosa, who has lost about 100 pounds since his freshman year, played within himself and scored almost all of his points on putbacks in the paint.

“Nobody in the CHSAA I feel can guard me at this point,” Delarosa said. “Anybody that has to match up with us is going to have a problem.”

Had hoped to attend CTK-Molloy game but my daughter had a game at same time. Likely going to CTK-St. Francis Prep game tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing Delarosa kid.

Where is the game, CTK or Prep? Is Prep any good this year? Leary still coaching as well?

Game at CTK. Leary still coaching. Don't know if they're any good this year. Haven't been following CHSAA like I used to. Because of my daughter, to busy following girls JV private school league :)

Went to CTK game tonight then came home and watched our game. Fortunately my DVR shut off with 3 minutes left. Best player on the court tonight was Travis Aston, a 6' 5" Jr. small forward for CTK. Kid knows how to play. Walker a very good point guard. Alkins, their best player, is injured and DNP. As for DeLaRosa, he played a nice game although he should have dominated against a much smaller SFP front line. He's a big boy and is learning how to use his body in the low post. Has good hands, decent footwork and soft touch around hoop. Nice stroke as well. IMO needs to be more assertive and get in better shape to have an impact at this level. We could definitely use him but, in milling around, didn't get the sense that he's headed here. Hope my senses are wrong.

I am sure your senses are right. I don't expect many more recruits before Lavin resigns sometime next year.

He's not 7'. He's got maybe 5" on Aston and Haggerty. FWIW I didn't get the sense that Lavin and Co have much of a relationship with the folks over at CTK. And establishing that relationship falls solely on the shoulders of Lavin. Maybe that explains why we haven't had much luck(Mo notwithstanding) with NYC kids. I mean if that staff hasn't established a close tie with the best program in the city, then they're likely not going to have much success recruiting here. We should be all over Alkins.

There have been rumblings from CTK coaches that Lavin and staff have never been to CTK. Kind of find that hard to believe regardless of how lazy they are. There are quotes and video interviews from De La Rosa about how much he likes the staff. Prior to the season it was as if we led for him. Not sure why there is disconnect with CTK unless staff is going thru the players directly or guardians as opposed to the school?

if thats true, its a sad day in NY basketball. We were at least always in the running for local greats. I understand he is a great recruiter, but he should re-enforce those local bonds with the bread and butter schools. No need to have an air of arrogance. Local guys going to St Johns has and will always be part of our make up. Part of that blue collar, toughness St Johns has been known for. We need local guys too.
