Adonis De La Rosa,

I could care less where the staff recruits and where the kids come from, but I assure you that not maintaining good relationships with the top programs in NYC is not smart business. Eventually it will come back to bit you on the backside. Besides you want to displace Cuse as NY's team, it probably couldn't hurt to have a few NY kids on the team.

Unfortunately you are right where you have to kiss the butt of everyone in NYC or they will feel slighted. For all that I love about this area that is one of the saddest things. Such a fickle bunch.

I want winners. I want kids from winning programs that know when to fall in line. Where in college they aren't gonna get the chance to dominate and score 30 ppg like they might in HS.

Does Ed Cota have any eligibility left? :cheer:

I've heard Chicago is worse, if you can believe it.

Does this id fit into our running game. He seems overwt and not that quick

He does not get up and down the court quickly, however he's a good rebounder(and should get better as he develops) and on most every rebound turns and looks to release the quick outlet pass. I could see him getting breaks started but he's always going to be the trailer. For us older guys, reminds me of a young, right handed Bob Lanier. Not comparing level of skill, just built and style.

He's not 7'. He's got maybe 5" on Aston and Haggerty. FWIW I didn't get the sense that Lavin and Co have much of a relationship with the folks over at CTK. And establishing that relationship falls solely on the shoulders of Lavin. Maybe that explains why we haven't had much luck(Mo notwithstanding) with NYC kids. I mean if that staff hasn't established a close tie with the best program in the city, then they're likely not going to have much success recruiting here. We should be all over Alkins.

There have been rumblings from CTK coaches that Lavin and staff have never been to CTK. Kind of find that hard to believe regardless of how lazy they are. There are quotes and video interviews from De La Rosa about how much he likes the staff. Prior to the season it was as if we led for him. Not sure why there is disconnect with CTK unless staff is going thru the players directly or guardians as opposed to the school?

More or less heard same thing about staff yesterday. Not good whether perceived or reality. Gotta make our presence felt. Sounds like Jarvis all over again with regard to not establishing relationships locally. Not to beat a dead horse, but that's one of the benefits of having an NY guy here....he understands who the key players(not talking about the kids) are and how to deal with them. Lavin, for as much of a salesman as he is, may just be a little to slick/hollywood for his own good.

At the Nova game, I heard two people talking about the St. John's roster and how there are not any New York players. They mentioned that St. John's used to always have some New York players and that was what made them tough. I am not even sure what team these people were rooting for. Even Nova has Pinkston. I know recruiting has become national and Lavin has grabbed players from across the country(world) but I would like to see more NY kids.

When will NY'ers realize that these kids have a god given ability that can get them OUT of New York. When you consider where most of these kids grew up leaving New York is pretty damn enticing. Its such a flawed argument when people talk about it IMO>

That's why Seton Hall is lining them up to play in South Orange...... I think the St John's campus is in a much nicer area.

Can we stop bringing up Seton Hall when the only reason they have Whitehead is because of a slimy coach? As for the other players Carrington is nothing to cry about losing and I still bet Delgado never makes it to campus. They also have something we don't have to offer and that's a boatload of PT and a chance to play immediately.

We should target the best player in NYC area every year no doubt. But a lot of these kids are leaving the city anyway and heading to prep schools and such. If we have a hole to fill sure look into a scrappy NYC pg or something as a backup. I want winners. I want kids from winning programs that know when to fall in line. Where in college they aren't gonna get the chance to dominate and score 30 ppg like they might in HS.

The kid Walker that you mentioned before seems like one of those kids. Has a very nice game. Have no idea who's looking at him. He may have even committed already. Even getting one of CTK's second or third best players can oftentimes help fill a void. I don't recall Jayson being that highly rated coming out of CTK. Carl Beckett, a solid roll player here with good character, may have even been the 6th man on his star studded CTK team. Of course then there was Omar who was MCAA. Know I'm missing some kids but point is that we need to establish ties with all the top programs including CTK, Loughlin, Lincoln, St. Rays(although Antiqua probably has a lock on that), etc.

Pretty sure Walker hasn't committed. Transfer from St Anthony's in LI. Guys like Aston who you mentioned I know Manhattan is hard after. He is perfect MAAC player. Maybe even A-10 in spots. Not sure he can translate to BE day in and day out.

Agree about Aston. Just love his game. If he were a couple of inches taller maybe. He's only a junior so a growth spurt still possible.

For a large portion of their game with hometown favorites Springfield (Mo.) Kickapoo, favored Middle Village (N.Y.) Christ the King was in big trouble. Kickapoo kept making timely threes and had healthy support from the hometown crowd. On top of that, CTK's star player Rawle Alkins the No. 19 player in the class of 2016 was having a tough night shooting the ball.

However, as Kickapoo's zone packed even tighter into the lane daring the CTK guards to shoot, the biggest player on the floor came up huge for the Royals as 6-foot-10, 300 pound senior center Adonis DeLaRosa bludgeoned the interior of Kickapoo's zone for a game-high 17 points in CTK's 49-46 win.

An enormous individual, DeLaRosa looks much improved since Rivals.com last saw him in the summer. He is moving better and is much more assertive on the block. He was demonstrative in calling for the ball and then showed off nice hands and very soft touch around the rim once he got the ball. Moving forward, college programs will want to shave some weight off of him and he'll need to be more of a rim protector, but the three-star prospect can play the game at a pretty high level. His coach, Joe Arbitello, mentioned St. John's, Fordham, Florida State and Rutgers among his offers. - See more at:http://nychoops.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1598795#sthash.W7zF8XlH.3YnN1rVl.dpuf

30 pounds would be a good start.

We have a lot of playing time to offer Adonis.

We have a lot of playing time to offer Adonis.

People here don't seem to want him.

Fact is, we need a big and he fits the description.

I say temper expectations and let him develop over time.

Would gladly take him. IMO he has a ways to go before making any impact at this level.

Couldn't find stats on yesterday's game against Iona prep. Think Delarosa went for about 8 points and 10 rebounds.

I have watched alot of video of De La Rosa. I am just having a hard time getting excited about this prospect.
