Adonis De La Rosa,

If nothing else that's 10 fouls and some rebounds. Combined they gotta be able to give at least 30 minutes I figure. And they're both taller than anyone on the roster this year.

Cute;

@NYPost_Brazille: Christ the King's Adonis Delarosa moves up commitment date to Apr. 9. Good news for St. John's fans I would think. #sjubb

So on the same day that an extremely negative article in the New York Post --one that pisses all over the idea of a contract extension for Lavin-- comes out, Delarosa moves up his commitment date.

Hmmm...

Too bad the 10 fouls will probably take place in about 5 minutes of playing time. :) At least until Adonis hopefully matures as a player.

I cannot believe that this entire board is so excited about recruiting a kid who is no even a top 100 recruit! This is so pathetic!

Adonis isn't a bad signing. But I think everyone was a lot more comfortable when we thought he was coming to replace Gift, and would have time to develop.
But no need to throw water on this; it's a nice signing, he's a big guy with soft hands, that in itself makes him a rare player.

me thinks that if we didn't/don't sign ADR, you'd bitch that we couldn't sign a city kid that would bring us much needed size. just a theory

It shows that Lavin can recruit a CTK kid without ever setting foot in their gym or having the number of any local HS or AAU coach in his phone.

I'm not sure you are reading the same Adonis thread as the rest of us. This one has people either calling him fat or expressing relief that we found a big man who may eventually be serviceable when he loses weight.

I'm leaning toward him being serviceable sooner rather than later because he will be getting a bunch of minutes next season that he's really not prepared for. I'm hoping volume of minutes alone will speed up the process. he's got soft hands, so I think he will be able to score right away if we get him the ball inside. Hopefully his body will create space because his vertical certainly won't.

Reasonable view. Hope so.

While he does have a nice touch and decent footwork and hands, he is not particularly assertive around the hoop. He's also going to have a tough time down low against the much more athletic big men he will be going up against. I would not expect much scoring from him initially. Hopefully over time he gets in better shape and becomes more assertive, then we'll likely see his offensive output increase.

Critical to get Adonis into off season conditioning program. Good point on assertiveness & potential for better offensive production. As many have said, in time, with hard work, he could become a functional big man. Just be patient in year one.

You are incorrect. It is not pathetic for the board is excited about a kid who despite the crap that is going on around here, is still keeping SJU at the top of his list. No need to get on a recruit or posters for that. While Dela Rosa may not be listed in the top 100 highschool players, he ranks higher than you as a poster with any sensitivity.

I don't care if you step on Lavin, he has earned that. But would you be happier if Dela Rosa picked another school like Pitt or South Carolina instead?

Agreed, and some on here act as if we're asking him to replace Olajuwan. If he averages 4 points and 5 rebounds, shoots better than 41% from the free throw line and isn't out of position on defense (whether he blocks 3 shots per game or not), then he likely is an upgrade for us as a team. Those numbers don't seem all that outrageous.

Additionally, by all accounts Adonis is a good kid, likeable and coachable. Qualities that shouldn't be overlooked.

People are disappointed because Adonis is our highest ranked recruit and replacing much higher ranked guys. If he was the 3rd or 4th highest ranked guy in a class I'm sure people would be more excited.

I'm happy to have him on board. People finally get a local player that they have been begging for. Welcome Adonis!
