If the staff can't sign a grad transfer of equal or superior ability to Owens, then they are not the staff I hoped they would be.

My take. I thought Owens was a nice role player for us the last 2 years. I also don't have a problem with him leaving. People should be able to do what is best for themselves. Problem I had was the whole notion that he thought he should be a bigger part of offense and that was the reason he was leaving. That was laughable. Would rather he leave than stay and think he is Carmelo Anthony.

Owens gave us 2 good years and 100% effort. I wish him well. Will be interesting to see his role with Texas Tech. Glad it didn't drag out any longer. Up to staff to replace him with a post player who can rebound and defend.

The problem is that he's probably near the top of grad big men.

He was to meet with the staff today. I would love to know if that was a "we are going to Texas" or what are you willing to do to keep us meeting?

I sense the latter. If we come back, will (a) we get to be more a focal point in the offense and take more shots away from the hoops and (b) will you guarantee to stop recruiting a grad transfer big that might eat into my playing time.

Wonder what grad degree he will be pursuing that we dont offer in the spirit of the grad transfer rule.

Time to move on.

I suspect SJU does not offer Agricultural Communication.

Last season unfortunately took a severe turn for the worst when Lovett got hurt. I believe if he stays healthy this was a NCAA team.
Also, so I guess if you don't get where you want to go the best thing to do is quit? Maybe not an attitude you should want on your team.

Ouch, that’s the nice way of saying “ You N****s is trash and I’m moving on.

I suspect it was to get Texas Tech off the fence and to make him a solid offer.

He had solid offer from Tech before the SJU meeting. He has a relationship with one of the assistant coaches there btw.

Why would he not attend the meeting? Unless TT told him they may pull the offer if he didn't decide right away? Thanks for the info though.

That was the original rule and has since changed. All you have to do is graduate now and pursue a grad degree.

“TarIq Owens met with St. John's coach Chris Mullin earlier today to inform him he was leaving. #sjubb”

Maybe, but I gladly take the trade of getting Femi for losing Tariq.
But staff has to close the deal, or we've taken a big hit.
