Guys, please drop this and get back to Tariq. I honestly don't know how to moderate on this new site. We don't have the same functionality as in the past.

Here's my contribution to staying on topic.... Whether, Owens stays or leaves is fine by me. I like his energy and hustle, but I really don't care one way or the other.

No offense, gman, as you seem like an alright dude, but this shouldn't be dropped. I don't have any issue with folks speaking up when a known agitator (98% of the time) delivers some William West-minstrel show BS.

He should be ignored (which is what I typically do per his posts) most times, but this is different. So, I don't mind one bit if other's want to dialogue about it even if it means derailing this thread. If the staff successfully do their job, then no need to fret over whether Owens returns or not. Just my opinion.

If you're having complications with the functionalities of the board, then ask two of your cohorts. They're having no problems with it. It (this person, not this matter) can be easily solved by simply dropping the ban hammer.
Well I for one certainly hope he returns to SJU and would welcome him with open arms. He has been a great representative and teammate alll 3 years at SJU. Is his game perfect , no it is not and he has been very inconsistent. However, he has contributed well to the team and his transfer to SJU has been a simbiotic relationship for both parties. I look forward to watching him play here next season.
While we are not perfect the grass is far from always greener.
While I agree with everything you say, one of the things that keeps me buying tickets, and being involved with a flawed university that I believe is on an upwards trajectory, is loyalty. It's my school, and the players I root for are part of that school. While there are better teams to root for than St. John's, the Mets, the Jets those are the ones I am loyal to.

I have a difficult time rooting for a kid, who by all measures is playing by the rules and exploring leaving without sitting out because he believes that is in his best interest. After the Lovett thing, it rankles me that while we are so committed to this team and university, the guys on the team who are here for a full ride, can't make the same commitment. I know they put their careers ahead of everything else, and I know most view college basketball as an apprenticeship and not an educational experience. On the flip side when I read about a kid who could go to the pros but wants to stick around, get a degree, and enjoy the college experience, I root for him even more. A generation later, Frank Gilroy's own kid did that at BU so he could play hockey with his younger brother, an incoming freshman. The reward? The chance to do just that, plus the NCAA championship, and a career in the NHL (I believe he is playing abroad now.)

...and Gilroy's kid was on this year's USA Olympic hockey team.

Was told a Tariq Owens decision should come in the next few days. Will meet with St. John's coaching staff today. Either #sjubb, Texas Tech or Maryland.

Hopefully CM is back for the meeting

Think everyone is ready for closure either way at this point. Not sure how he could start at Maryland...I don't know about TT. Btw Paultz, good to see your avatar.

Assume this means Coach is back on campus?

Count me among those that hope that Tariq rejoins StJohn’s.

OK guys. All the BS from FUN (and related posts) is gone. You can stop commenting on it.

Next time you see something like that, please click the Report Post button. Mods don't have time to read all the posts and we may (likely) not have seen the offending comments.

Thanks.

I guess everyone can go back to hating him and his dad again... Lol

What a tease. Time to lock the topic. Hopefully we can get someone better.

I would go after both Mississippi St kids. Stapleton grad transfer stretch 4 and Wright as a sit out.

Oh well. It hurts from a depth perspective, but he was not a program changer. Solid, not great piece. A solid bench option on a good team but definitely not a starter on a good one. Tariq played with passion and gave his all while he was here so I thank him for that. His father may misjudge his talent level, but he was always a cool guy to hang with at games. I wonder what these other schools are telling these kids. IMO to demand to start as a bench caliber player is just a headache that Texas Tech can deal with now. We already needed a big or two when Owens was here. Now with Yakwe and Owens both gone we definitely need 2 if not 3. Still holding out hope Matt can pull a rabbit out of his hat, but I feel like our program stinks to high heavens right now perception wise and recruits/transfers can smell the stench. We are simply way too easy to negatively recruit against right now. Hire Mike Rice before UConn gets him and becomes a perennial top 15 team again or we will be forced to watch 2 good coaches who got away and rebuilt a hated rival. We are in desperation mode folks.

"I'm big on relationships, always have been," Owens told Daniels. "When I was at Tennessee I did a lot of work with Coach Pinkins."

NO, he is NOT!
A straight up slap to Mullin and his staff. One year at Tennessee where he was being written off by Rick Barnes and three years at St. John's and his relationship with an assistant coach trumped his relationship with his teammates and Mullin.
Now, Mullin, Mitch and Greg get off your collective asses and get a grad transfer.

He’s gone. No, wait. He’s gone. Done. What a freaking head fake! Damn, let’s get a grad transfer in here. Hope Femi’s ‘unofficial’ with us went well...

Kid played with heart so I won’t bash him too much for the move. You can’t control who your father is.

If he came into last season with 20 lbs of muscle added maybe things would’ve gone the way he was expecting. Would’ve preferred to see that as opposed to him sitting on the perimeter jacking up 3’s all winter.
