Ackerman should be fired

Did the Big East write this before of after they washed and detailed the committee members’ cars?
If this statement came from Ackerman she really should be fired. It’s like a person who has just been abused saying…… “the next time you beat me up can you just use your fists instead of that hammer? I’ll try to be better next time so you don’t get mad at me”. Boo hoo hoo

Unreal …..

I literally was listening to WFAN today at some point one of the guys had mentioned how he has now become obsessed with the Kate Middleton thing and something is going on and I'm thinking " where the Fock have I been I have no clue what he was talking about "

Then I realized it's because I've been on this site non stop
Who’s Kate Middleton? 🤣😂

It is the Big East statement. While the PR department handles the actual wording, Ackerman had to have signed off on it.

I'm not a big one for calling for people to be fired, but in this case I'm wiling to make an exception. The response from the Big East to an unprecedented and unwarranted slap at its showcase sport has been so pathetic, so mealy-mouthed, so inept, just so ridiculously weak it is hard to believe that a competent person runs this organization. The conference deserves much better.

What the hell are you talking about? I was responding to a comment how it seemed weird that us nor the Hall were on CBS during the selection show and I am adding no team on the bubble was on TV last night and I don’t recall that ever happening do in fact I am agreeing with that post. It makes It seem hat something is up.

I am not skirting any issue. Metrics like Net or the other one means nothing to me. What means something is level of competition and winning games. Do what you are supposed to do which is win games like BC and Michigan, don‘t blow huge leads and lose to Seton Hall and Marquette and close out other close games and put them in the W column instead of the L one. Do that and this is a moot point concerning St. John’s. Never leave it in the hands of a committee or other teams because you are on a bubble because unless you’re Michigan State, you have the real possibility that things will not go your way. I am not going to argue metrics because in the end it’s all BS because you can pick and chose what metrics to use, how to use them and when to use them to make it fit the outcome you want. I am not going to rely on some metric to get me in the tournament but rely on my team to win enough so it doesn’t even need to be brought up.

The Big East should have had more than three, no doubt with Seton Hall the one who got jobbed the most IMHO. The Big East was devalued this year and it shouldn’t have been while the ACC should have been devalued more. I have pretty much said those sentiments in other post so again, what am I skirting?
Disagree about the Hall getting robbed the most . We beat them handily on Thursday by 19 points and we gave UCONN a better game than , either Xavier or , Marquette . Losing only by 5 points , 95-90.

During our late season run , we also beat Creighton pretty easily . Creighton is a 3 seed .

Losing to Michigan in the early season or BC , Big 10 and ACC school is not like losing to Robert Morris or Thomas Acquinas .

Purdue lost to Rutgers and Wisconsin , to me those are bad losses if you are a Number 1 seed in the tournament .

I think us, SH and PC all should have been included , without question or controversy .
Our Conference got screwed plain and simple .

And , where is our Commissioner ‘s outrage ?

To be fair, Creighton is the only team in the field we beat. As opposed to the Hall beating UConn and Marquette. Not to mention they beat us 2 out of 3. Seems if the Hall had our metrics and we had their 13-7 league record, we’d both be in the field.

Assistant Coach Bob Walsh said it best. “Tell us where the goalposts are and we'll find them.”

They beat uconn and Marquette (1 and 2 seed) and lost in OT to creighton if we’re gonna give bonus points to us for close loses.

13 & 7!!?!

Gréât post my friend, you didn’t pull any punches nor did you blame anyone else. We alone are responsable for not dancing.
What a disappointing season.
Dear RMN
Thank you, however…
“ Disappointing “???
Rick Pitino assumed control of the program at the 11th hour in March 2023, and had so little time to prepare, recruit and form a team from a dozen players who never even saw each other before the season.
It could be viewed as a marvelous job done by our head coach and staff in light of the circumstances.
Does anyone doubt that with this first year under his belt - and with more time to recruit and practice - things will go in a very positive direction 2024-25?
My 98 year old mom died March 9, 2024 and that - as well as family illnesses that we all unfortunately face - helps keep college basketball and this NCAA snub - in perspective
Blessings

I don't know how much she can put her "outrage" into print.

The NCAA has shown a history of bias against the Catholic schools, the Big East. Under Anderson, St Johns declines NIT bid, NCAA screws us the following year. Under Lavin, St Johns was denied an NCAA bid. One incident, we had to hire NCAA friendly law firm to do our bidding.

The double standard of the Big 5 v Big East is mind numbing. F the NCAA tournament this year. I'm playing golf.

At first I thought the calls for Ackerman to be fired were over the top, but after seeing the weak ass response to this ridiculous unjustifiable disrespect to the big East now I am on board. They should be pissed and should have expressed that instead their reaction is like if somebody stabbed you and you picked up the knife cleaned it and said oh here I think you dropped this be more careful next time. Their reaction is almost as bad as the snubbing.

Took me two minutes on ChatGPT to come up with a better response:

[Big East Conference Letterhead]

[Date: March 19, 2024]

[Recipient Name]NCAA Selection CommitteeNCAA HeadquartersIndianapolis, IN

Dear Members of the NCAA Selection Committee,

We write to you with a mix of disappointment and resolve regarding the recent selection of teams for the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.

While we congratulate the three Big East teams selected, we cannot overlook the omission of several other deserving teams from our conference. The Big East Conference, renowned for its basketball prowess and storied history, deserved better representation.

Make no mistake: the Big East is the epitome of college basketball excellence. Our tradition, talent, and competitive spirit are unmatched. This year's oversight does not reflect the caliber of our conference.

Nevertheless, we are not deterred. The Big East will return stronger, more determined, and more dominant than ever. We are committed to reclaiming our deserved place at the forefront of college basketball.

We urge you to reconsider the selection process to ensure fair representation for all deserving teams in the future. The Big East Conference will not rest until justice is served.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

[Your Name][Your Title/Position]Big East Conference"

I think that SH got ignored in the Selection fiasco . I only commented that , based on last Thursday game , where we beat them by 19 points , we should have received equal , if not higher attention .
If I’m not mistaken , SH beat UCONN and Marquette early in the season , December and January I think
Both , great wins for them . Which alone should get them selected , plus 13 BE wins in total .

But , if this was a horse race between us and SH , wouldn’t you look at each team’s performance over the last 5 contests ?

Plus , the last race where we competed , we win by 19 lengths ! It’s a imperfect comparison but , not entirely illogical

As for close losses , I was only commenting on our game with UCONN on Friday . 5 point loss to America’s Number 1 . Better than Xavier and Marquette . Both of whom were routed . We weren’t .

But , the NCAA wants us to believe the Number 1 Huskies playing Number 16 Stetson is a component of a National Championship . It isn’t ,
It’s a weak scrimmage match up at best .
But , let’s put it on National TV to showcase how great the Tournament is …

It’s funny too , how many of the TV Commentators were saying , prior to the Selection fiasco , how many Teams are going to want to play St John’s?

Assistant Coach Bob Walsh said it best. “Tell us where the goalposts are and we'll find them.”
Well Bob... Don't blow a double digit 2H lead to BC... Win 3 of the 6 games vs Hall/UConn/Marq.... you finish the reg season at 23-8 /14-6. There are your Goal posts.

I agree SJU 85. I’m as aggravated as anyone over how the Big East was treated this year. But, specifically to St. John’s, we only had one win against teams that were in the field. In the end that’s what killed us. Our horrible mid season skid when we lost all those games where we had the lead. We could have added 3 more wins against teams in the field and it would be a different story. One against Marquette, another against Creighton on the road and one against UConn at their place. Also vs Seton Hall. Those games are where the rubber meets the road.
losing to boston college, dayton, and mich might have hurt. We know rick was still puting the team together at that time but it was not going to be taken into account.

I like the current size as well...but its unworkable given the climate of professional college sports these days. The football conferences are driving the ship. How do we respond?
By having Rick as coach. The winning streak and the show us and conn put on at the garden I feel saved our season. I can see how we got left out but 3 bids val can make a bit of a stink. I wonder how fox made out in the ratings?
