Ackerman should be fired

Three bids for the second best conference in the country? That's the first step towards being seen by recruits and donors as a mid-major. Commissioners at the football conferences already see us that way. They screamed it yesterday.
Apparently Ms Ackerman isn't strong enough to stem that image.
The marketing of the Big East totally blows. Where's Val?
The selling of Big East schools to the selection committee was non existent. Where was Val? It sounds as if the "Big Conference" commissioners were laughing at her.
Does anyone think our commissioner is strong enough to compete in this multi-billion dollar business?
We're seeing massive conference mergers from football schools with no thoughts of tradition. It's all about the money.
Instead of wringing her hands at a news conference as some are suggesting, she should be on the phones right now talking to athletic directors at schools in other conferences.
We need someone who thinks outside the box.
We have a TV contract coming up. Options? We can go to ESPN (the people who screwed the old Big East big time while practically dismantling it)) and hope for a sweetheart deal. We can go to Fox Sports while bending over and spreading our cheeks with the hope they won't take advantage of our new mid-major image. Or we can expand the conference in a way that changes that. Schools in cities like St Louis, Richmond, Dayton, near Miami or Boston, would expand viewership in those areas..making it palatable for Fox to open its wallets a bit more.
The bottom line is we're not seen as much different than the other mid majors and it'll only get worse unless something different is done.
+100

While I like the current size of the Conference, which maybe I would push back a little on, I can’t argue that we may need to spread out more. But whomever is brought in has to move the needle in a positive direction in terms of media outlet and sustainability of the program.

My only point is that if the BE wants to recover from this slight there is only one way to do it: The teams that are in have to win big.

That sends a much bigger message than Ackerman lashing out or whatever it is people here want her to do.
I'm rooting for all three to make the Final Four. It is the one way to exact productive revenge. But I don't think anyone would change their minds about it.

The Big East overachieves every year in the dance...the Big Ten is a notorious underachiever. It doesn't come down to that.

Marquette has had an abysmal NCAA record of late.
Creighton has been the most consistent BE team since the merger but has yet to win the big one.
Time to change that if we want to be looked at as something other than a top-heavy (2 school) conference.

This is exactly what Danny Hurley said yesterday. He said the Big East conference starts in November, with the OOC schedule. BE teams have to (a) schedule top OOC teams and (b) win the games. He's right. Clip below.

We have a difference on our take of the team doing what they needed to do on the court. To me, we didn’t win enough and losing to BC and Michigan in NYC, blowing a huge lead and losing to Seton Hall in Nassau County were examples. The Metrics might say we did, but this year those metrics right or wrong, did not get us in.
I agree SJU 85. I’m as aggravated as anyone over how the Big East was treated this year. But, specifically to St. John’s, we only had one win against teams that were in the field. In the end that’s what killed us. Our horrible mid season skid when we lost all those games where we had the lead. We could have added 3 more wins against teams in the field and it would be a different story. One against Marquette, another against Creighton on the road and one against UConn at their place. Also vs Seton Hall. Those games are where the rubber meets the road.

It is all about vision and leadership. Val just counts the $ and is far too passive.
She's counting nickles and dimes and seems fine with it. She is playing checkers and other conferences are playing chess! She is woefully incompetent, the landscape is changing and she's a spectator. The motto of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" is not going to apply here.

Give Brett Yormark credit Big 12 was facing down the barrel of the gun after having their legs blown off. Instead retooled can make argument better hoops conference. Val might try getting our games on Apple TV. I do not know who her replacement is but need better.

So, the one representative for the Big East on the committee was Barry Collier from Butler who is retiring in April. Maybe they need to get somebody in there who is thinking about the present and future of the Big East and not some retiring AD form the Mid-West that doesn't represent Northeast Basketball. If my critic of Mr.Collier who I don't know seems strong, so be it! Replace that committee seat with somebody that has the energy to represent Big East Basketball. This was a total disrespect for the entire conference!

He let us down too. He should have needed to be carried out of the room over the thought of 3 teams. We need people with balls fighting for us. Not these neutered pipsqueaks.

I found it particularly interesting that Rick said that we're skipping the NIT because he has to concentrate on rebuilding this team as we are losing 7 players.

Soriano, Ledlum, Dingle, Jenkins, Conway and the two Iona guys?

Add Alleyne to the first five as they are all out of eligibility and I expect Davis to follow. Maybe Ayo and Traore (I hope not) also.

Has Val released a statement or made any public comments? Where the hell is our commissioner? The time to say something was tonight. Nobody cares about snubs come Monday morning everyone moves on to filling out the bracket.
She's tired and sleeping in. I don't understand all the metrics involved, but this would have never happened with Dave Gavitt as commissioner. We need a strong, connected commissioner, not an underwhelming "first ever" hire.

Seton Hall should've been a 6 seed and the Johnnies should've been anywhere between a 7-9 seed.
Seton Hall should have been out after the loss to Us. but there is zero reason they would be a 6 seed (top 24 in the country?)
