2nd DePaul Game

Looking forward to the game tonight. I'd like to see if this team is going to make February and March interesting. A win tonight and we keep the dream of the NCAAs alive.

Me too and agree with your assessment about our post season hopes.

But these 9:00 PM games are a killer. I won't be getting home until after midnight. Hopefully, with my St. John's winter cap!

See for me they're perfect. I just have to leave the office a little early around 5:40 to make the opening tip, and that's easy this week with the boss in NYC.

5:40? Most of the curmudgeons here will have had dinner by then, had their 1 hour nap and be getting ready for a shower before heading for the game.

Austour lives in Cali I think so the game is 6PM for him

9.5 is a big # to me since:

They beat us already
Chris is questionable
They have a better record than us

I think we win, but its a high spread

you just described the Creighton game

Creightons record wasnt better and we all assumed Chris would play

well we do have a much better overall record than Depaul's

Not in the conference.

And with that said, this is a "6th place game" to me, especially considering where Seton Hall is headed. 6th is a huge place to get to for us because we will be in the Butler/Providence bracket rather than Nova/GT/Xavier and we will only have to play three games instead of four to win.

It's just about survive and advance. Just collect wins. You have more outs at 10-8 than 9-9...and more outs at 9-9 than 8-10.

The way I see it...

DePAUL Queens, N.Y. (Carnesecca Arena)… Must Win (5-6)
Sat. Feb. 14 • at Xavier Cincinnati, Ohio (Cintas Center) …. Lose (5-7)
Tues. Feb. 17 • at Georgetown Washington, D.C. (Verizon Center) Lose (5-8)
Sat. Feb. 21 • SETON HALL Queens, N.Y. (Carnesecca Arena) … Must Win (6-8)
Mon. Feb. 23 • XAVIER New York, N.Y. (Madison Square Garden) … Split these 2 (7-9)
Sat. Feb. 28 • GEORGETOWN New York, N.Y. (Madison Square Garden) …(7-9)
Wed. March 4 • at Marquette Milwaukee, Wis. (Bradley Center) …Must Win (8-9)
Sat. March 7 • at Villanova … Would be nice but probably lose (8-10)

19-12 needing 2 wins in Big East Tourney to get in. The more wins against top 50 will help, i.e beating either G-Town or Xavier twice or a Nova win. Lot's of work to do that starts tonight. Would be great to win at either G-Town X.

8-10 in conference I feel STJ would need to win the BE tourney to get in.

That'd be tough to say considering we wouldn't know their RPI and SOS at that point. The only teams we can't afford to lose to are DePaul, Marquette and the now RPI plummeting Seton Hall.

I think we should take one game at a time. How many guys looked past Creighton-1?

On Sportbook.com St. John's/Creighton 1 went off as a Pick. Anyone who looked past Creighton or any Big East road game was foolish.

If we win tonight and split the next two on the road, then why not look at the last 5 games.
If not, and say we go 1-2, we'll be at 5-8. why bother \looking at the vlast 5 then.
@ Villanova is a loss, so we will have to go 4-0 in the rest of the games just to go 9-9
Does anyone feel comfortable with that? I know I don't

Beat DePaul, Marquette and Seton Hall (must wins), then go 2 - 3 against Georgetown (2) , Xavier (2) and Villanova. That's can be done.

Huh? 8-10 in conference there is no shot they get an at-large bid.

Disagree. Conference record doesn't mean as much as people seem to think it does. When all these "bracketologists" do their brackets, it's not a prediction, it's a current snapshot. Why do they have us in the bracket now (or close) when we have a 4-6 conference record? Conference record doesn't matter. We're not competing for a bid with anyone else in the conference. We'll be competing with other teams with similar profiles.

The Big East's non-conference performance set up every team in the Big East to have a good at-large profile as long as you can put together an average conference record.

If we win the three games we need to (DePaul, Marquette and Seton Hall) and get at least one from Georgetown, Xavier or Nova we would still be very much in the conversation. Our RPI and SOS and NCSOS would still keep us around.

Ok if STJ finishes at 8-10 in the BE ,and doesnt win the BE tourney you can watch the selection show and be disappointed.

If SJU finishes 8-10 in conference but gets to the BET finals and loses then they have a 58.532% chance of being selected.

I said it would keep us in the conversation. I can't make a prediction now. It's useless. I don't know what any of the other bubble team's profiles are going to look like a month from now. Neither do you. All I'm saying it doesn't make any sense to deal in absolutes on Feb 11.

Last year, Oklahoma State got in with an 8-10 conference record(as a 9 seed no less)

I think the conference record is completely useless. It's who you beat and where you beat them. If we beat Nova at their place, 8-10 probably gets you in.

You might as well say that if we go 4-14 and win the BET we have a 100% chance of going. By all means will they look at a 9-9 and weight any teams who finished ahead of us as better in conference.
