2024-25 Season

Rick - "Powers that Be... we are gonna have a Top 5 Team in the Country when we host Seton Hall... don't you feel Kadary, Scott, Dev deserve their Senior night on the biggest Stage - in front of the Most Fans possible - at the MECCA - MSG! this is why you hired me!!!"

Powers that be -"great point Rick- we'll work on it"

99% of Fans - " Thank you Rick"

Carmine - "... BUT what about the scalpers!!!"
I've got highly esteemed poster Idraft on my side. I'm sure there are others.

Power that be 1 - "Hey, we're 12 and 1. Our season is a success. Let's move the Seton Hall game on the first to Msg. We'll sell more tickets and make more money."

Power that be 2 - "How can we do that? The game is less than 3 weeks away and our fans bought tickets with the expectation of a Queens game. Plus, this particular game has a higher demand than any Alumni Hall game in our history. People are paying $400 a ticket."

Power that be 1 - "Screw the consumer."

Power that be 3 - How much of that $400 do we get?

Last week there literally wasn't an ounce of doubt in my body that we wouldn't win both Marquette and at Uconn.

I'm very confident Creighton Sunday and I'm predicting win at Nova but I'd be lying if I didn't say for some reason I'm getting a little antsy about the at Nova

If we get both thank God we have off for holiday on Monday so I can just stare at this site the entire day waiting for rankings. I'll probably be staring at 3am Sunday night waiting

I'm confused. Who would complain about playing a game at MSG instead of CA?

It was a serious question - I legit don't understand. Better arena, easier to get to for 90% of the fan base, plenty of notice before the game date, probably sell 10,000 more tickets, more $ for the school. I can't understand what the objection could be, it must be that I"m missing something.
The people who are buying the tickets now for probably 2x to 3x the price will be frustrated. I'm sure there's a certain % of people who would rather drive their car to the arena vs. LIRR it.

But I just don't think it's even slightly close to not being worth it for the program. I know I'm one example, but as someone who doesn't live in Queens/LI, I'm now not only planning on going to the game but likely going with a half dozen friends who haven't been able to catch a game yet. Although it's the Sat before spring break starts, I'm sure a bunch of students want to go but there isn't capacity. Now they can have an awesome afternoon.

It's just a no brainer on so many levels.

Ah. So you figure if somebody paid a premium on the resale market for CA due to limited capacity and could have bought a face-value seat at MSG they are out the overage? That would make sense.

Yeah. The cheapest re-sale ticket on Ticketmaster is $178. The next cheapest is over $200. Hopefully they get seats that are worth that at MSG, but I am sure the cheapest ticket face value for this game will be $50.

I live in New Hyde Park and would say conservatively a game at MSG adds two hours to my day. The LIRR does not build its schedule to make sure that trains arrive and depart when SJU games begin and end. And it's worse than ever now that many trains go to Grand Central. Considering how many fans are on those trains, and they have been packed, there is no way that 90 percent number is anywhere close to accurate. And of course, there is also the fact that half the residents in my town won't go to Manhattan as they have been convinced they will be raped and murdered immediately. They are willing to risk a trip to Queens as long as they can drive and park on campus.

Look, for me I like being at MSG better once I'm there and prefer the easier commute to CA when they play there. But every single person who goes to CA games does not prefer MSG, I know people who only buy CA games.

Again - my thoughts are not about me, but I don't think customers should be sold one thing and given another.

Too bad I didn't sell my seat high at Carnesseca and then buy 114. A little ticket arbitrage never hurts the after game ( Tir Na Nog budget )

It is such a new experience for us to be so hot and lauded , so the “one game at a time” mantra is hard to adhere to.

So you're saying that me looking at flights to San Antonio is premature?

I actually went to a Final 4 in San Antonio, and it was a great one. 2008: Kansas, Memphis, UCLA and UNC.

So to add context from last year: https://lookerstudio.google.com/u/0/reporting/9815f157-ea60-478f-a481-2dc93fae6ca8/page/tWDGB

This would've been the third highest rated game. Only behind: BET championship game and Marq/Purdue, which was two top five teams in Maui the day before Thanksgiving on FOX.

We also added almost 200k from last year's BET game against UConn.

If there was a big enough truly committed fan base there wouldn't be any single tix available at CA for any game, or at least not any conference game. Yet there has been until recently. Most of the folks at MSG games during this run are prospective members of the longer term truly committed fan base. A potentially valuable long term asset. I've only been to CA a few times but I was in living in Brooklyn/Westchester and working in Manhattan during my MSG season ticket years. Going to CA was not worth my time or bother. I was part of the 90% for sure and would still be to this day after the experience of going to CA a couple years back (can't pick and choose when you're in town as rarely as I am), regardless of where I lived. Just not a great experience. I feel for the folks who dropped serious money on secondary market tickets but you can't use those folks, a significant minority, as your measure of what is best for the program or the financials of the university.

Tell us how much of that $400 is going to St. John's? And tell us how much of the additional money for tickets sold at the Garden will go to St. John's.

You really think the fact that people are buying tickets at inflated prices, where SJU gets none of that money, should have a bearing on if they should keep it at home? I can agree about the timing of the move, but the fact that people are making money off the product is not a valid reason. If they can get a refund for that $400 because of the venue change and then buy a ticket at an obviously lower price, is that good?
