Very favorable schedule…they don’t have to go on any 4-5 day road trips playing two games . Those were brutal to plan, pack supplies, travel and play. The worst were those Marquette and Creighton or DePaul trips in the middle of winter with frequent charter flight cancellations and equipment malfunctions.
The Baha trip should be ok…I remember Anton Geoff’s first trip with us as an AD was when we played in the Bahama Tourney. Plane was delayed leaving JFK for 9 hrs. Had to feed the team 2-3 times at JFK restaurants. Then when we finally took off around 10-11 pm, no one had the thought to call the Tournament committee there and tell them of our predicament. So we land at around 2-3 AM. Airport is closed. No one to unload the plane. Security allows us to unload our luggage. Mind you, all our families were with us too. So we make our way outside and boom, NO CHARTER BUS. 3 AM and no way to travel the 1 hr to the team hotel at Atlantis.
An assistant coach calls the hotel and they send a 12 passenger shuttle bus to the airport. Players and the Mullin family board that with some gear. 1 hr there and 1 hr to return to, pick the rest of us up. We finally get to the Atlantis around 5-6 am in time to see the sunrise. What an adventure.
