2023-24 Roster

Let's assume for just a moment that Rick brings in talent which is comparable to the talent on last seasons roster. I think that's a fair assumption to make. With comparable talent, and with kids who we know will buy in to his vision, and with Rick's coaching ability, I don't see how we don't finish top 5(at least) in the conference and how we're not dancing come March. Yes we're all antsy right now, and yes we would have all liked for Rick to retain a few more players, but we're in the best hands we've been in since Louie retired, so it's only a matter of time before we start seeing the fruits of the staffs labor. I'm not gonna saying "be patient", because honestly I don't care one iota who's patient and who's not, but I'll continue to remain patient. Besides, it's only been a couple of weeks.
Couldn't have said it better, Monte.
That's an 'A' for Hoops logic, and American composition. Lol.

Right, if they really want the kid and the kid has the right amount of talent. Clearly only Soriano fit the bill from last year's team. I mean, Traore I doubt had to have his butt kissed. You don't need to kiss the butt of mediocre talent, and/or kids who don't buy in to your vision regardless of how talented they may be.
Not arguing anything other than maybe a little ass kissing for Storr might have been beneficial

I think the whole "learning a new system" thing is way way overblown. Although it did serve as a good excuse, for a while anyway, for the apologists of our last coach. 😉
I agree. All good coaches bring in players who they think will fit and thrive in their system.

Fans see a player with less talent being brought in, but for what is required from the coach, that certain player excels.

In Pitino’s case, it is all about defense. While it may be somewhat complex, he will coach the players up.

Best example I can think of was Dunlap’s defensive scheme which was very complicated. But the team picked it up and was successful. The opponent usually had a miserable time dealing with it.

I have no problem with overhauling the roster. I think this is as much about a culture change as it is a talent evaluation. That said, I do cringe at not retaining Storr. He's the one I expect will play very well for another high major. Sure hope it is out of our conference.
Agree, JohnnyFan. Wish we knew what actually 'went down' there; was it PT, 'culture change', rules/coaching demands, i.e., too tight a ship?
Whatever, it's a shame. Storr is the one guy most likely to be very successful at a high major elsewhere.

What's does "fully embrace" entail though? Telling a kid exactly what he wants to hear? Kissing a kid's butt? Promising a kid something at the expense of another kid who may deserve it more? Nah, I'd rather an entirely new roster and a longer rebuild process then any of that crap.
I imagine the staff is saying something to the transfers they’re going after to get them to come. They should have treated Posh and Storr the same as in my view they’re just as important. I’m not convinced we’re going to find two better players at their positions this year but perhaps I’m wrong.

Apparently Daniiss Jenkins visiting this weekend as well.
While some folks might not be super excited, he has solid numbers, a career 78% FT shooter and hit 36% from 3 on 4.4 attempts last year. I also think there is a huge benefit to having WCJ and jenkins in the back court next year, which is that those two know how pitino wants to play. It's much less of a rebuild if the guys who will be handling the ball the most already have a year in pitino's system. In a sense, those guys provide more continuity than even keeping last year's SJU players.

They may really want those transfers, they may not have really wanted many of the players from last season. Fact is, none of us know what went on with these kids under CMA, none of us knows how they were approached by Rick, and no one knows what the roster will look like next season. So until it all shakes out, it's all purely speculation.

Sense all three visitors tomorrow including Gardner become Johnnies. Get Ledlum next, but competition there, and I am happy w the start.
I’d love that. Clayton jr is a stud. Jenkins also a very good player. Those guys were very underrecruited and much better than maac level players. Pitino would have a lot of continuity bringing those two in and adding big time talent around them. Between the two of them they put up 29pts 9a vs UConn in the tourney. Problem with Iona is those two did all the heavy lifting and didn’t have much frontcourt. Those two can play though.

Clayton Jr. Jenkins, Gardner, Soriano would be a heck of a base to start with.

Lol, we really are going to have an “All Iona back court.” Can’t say I’m thrilled with that but what do I know
I kinda agree. I didn't see how well they fared against UConn in the tournament. But i do know i liked Posh and Wusu over the years against a UConn backcourt. So i guess I will miss the familiarity of those guys and hope that RP can make these guys play effectively in an existing and effective system.
