2023-24 Roster

I’m trying to recall an Oldies song
Or maybe not so old, about
“waiting for the phone to ring”…???
“waiting for a Diamond ring”…

Patience please.
Here the song lyrics
You can sit around and wait for the phone to ring (at the end of the line)
Waiting for someone to tell you everything (at the end of the line, of the line)
Sit around and wonder what tomorrow will bring (at the end of the line)
Maybe a diamond ring

End or the Line
Traveling Wilburys

Proud Alum, Doubke Alum,
Maybe because of the chemistry and discipline issues and lets remember he definitely offered Posh and Storr the opportunity to return.
Who knows, he may have offered all of them except for maybe 1 or 2. But you can bet that whoever he offered, he offered on Rick's terms not the player's terms. Clearly Soriano and Traore agreed to Rick's terms, let's see if any of the other kids(King, Posh, etc) come around. If not, it's best for all parties if they part ways.

Pitino communicating to a kid like Posh a range of expected minutes obviously helps them decide their next move. I sense that is part of equation for all incumbents he offered opportunity to stay.

It's funny, because many lauded CMA, as well they should have, when they thought that he was taking a hard line with the kids. Now some are criticizing RP for "not showing the kids enough love". Here's part of the problem the way I see it; this generation of kids(many not all) have been coddled and praised way too much. Especially kids with immense amount of talent, basketball and otherwise. The minute someone tells them something that they don't want to hear, they run to someone who will tell them what they want to hear. To that I say "good luck in the real world kid".

The coddling has been happening for way longer than you think in sports. I coached my sons in baseball and basketball at the recreational and travel level. On the rec level everyone was giving a participation trophy (which I disagreed with then), so we're talking 20 years ago. It's now been brought into lowering academics standards, so add to that a kid with skills and you have a disaster in the makings for our future kids "in the real world".

Personally I just have hard time seeing them grabbing not only 4 starters but position specific starters plus 4 bench guys that will contribute for next year and be better than all the guys that left. Would have seemed more prudent to try to retain Posh and Storr and recruit around them. I seriously doubt you are bringing in 7 better players than those 2. I think Pitino doesn’t fully understand the curse of ST John’s basketball. I like the confidence but think he overestimating a little here.

He offered both Posh and Storr the opportunity to stay, they chose not to

So does Tim Brando (although, he thinks King is Storr).
That would mean three of k
If what people are saying is true was kind of lukewarm offers.
Yeah, have to believe that if Pitino fully embraced Storr and Posh they would have stayed. As much as it pains me, I tend to agree with Larry Wright that it would have been a much more effective strategy to retain Storr and Posh and build around them and Soriano. Of course we’ll never truly know what went on behind close doors so difficult to judge.

Actually you are correct, it's the last 2 generation of kids. And it has definitely gotten worse as the potential $ have grown.

What's does "fully embrace" entail though? Telling a kid exactly what he wants to hear? Kissing a kid's butt? Promising a kid something at the expense of another kid who may deserve it more? Nah, I'd rather an entirely new roster and a longer rebuild process then any of that crap.

Great song SS&G, I am feeling pretty good that Rick can get us dancing regularly before some of us old timers hit "the end of the line', lol.

Every coach kisses every but of every kid they really want. If think Pitino is the exception you are 💯 wrong.
I love Rick Pitino the coach but lets not all of a sudden make him out to be Norman Dale. “I don’t care if you play or not” only works in the movies.

I have no problem with overhauling the roster. I think this is as much about a culture change as it is a talent evaluation. That said, I do cringe at not retaining Storr. He's the one I expect will play very well for another high major. Sure hope it is out of our conference.

Let's assume for just a moment that Rick brings in talent which is comparable to the talent on last seasons roster. I think that's a fair assumption to make. With comparable talent, and with kids who we know will buy in to his vision, and with Rick's coaching ability, I don't see how we don't finish top 5(at least) in the conference and how we're not dancing come March. Yes we're all antsy right now, and yes we would have all liked for Rick to retain a few more players, but we're in the best hands we've been in since Louie retired, so it's only a matter of time before we start seeing the fruits of the staffs labor. I'm not gonna saying "be patient", because honestly I don't care one iota who's patient and who's not, but I'll continue to remain patient. Besides, it's only been a couple of weeks.

Given your scenario with bringing in the same talent level, both teams would have to learn a new system. The difference is I believe is Pitino will bring in kids that are funda"mentally" sound.

I think the whole "learning a new system" thing is way way overblown. Although it did serve as a good excuse, for a while anyway, for the apologists of our last coach. 😉

Right, if they really want the kid and the kid has the right amount of talent. Clearly only Soriano fit the bill from last year's team. I mean, Traore I doubt had to have his butt kissed. You don't need to kiss the butt of mediocre talent, and/or kids who don't buy in to your vision regardless of how talented they may be.
