I think he wants to bring in guys with maximum potential, not maximize guys who have maxed much of their potential.
Anderson couldn’t do enough with what he had, especially on offense, but as a defensive coach he couldn’t get many of these guys playing defense. We had big holes in both coaching and roster construction.
I don’t think Pitino wants guys who are unable to play offensive ball. He kept Soriano on board because he’s a good kid, wants to grind and still has quite a ceiling. Traore and Leita seem to be good kids and I’m not sure of their upside at all but likely were not problem kids and are kids who want to be here.
I think he had doubts about a lot of the others and likely off court issues compounded stuff he saw on the court. A handful also chose to leave. We know Posh and Storr were offered to come back. As far as I’m concerned that’s on them. I think Posh has a place and he left that door open.
Aside from that, he already stated he wants certain types of players and they have to love playing basketball. Be obviously has criteria. He is 70 and doesn’t have a million years to build what he wants here. I think within the next month we will likely be very happy with our roster.
