2023-24 Roster

Folks need to relax. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will our roster. A lot of players still out there in the portal with more to come and some available prep talent also.

Visits starts soon. Heck Jones didn't enter the portal until late April at the earliest last year and committed to us in May.

FYI for all Portal closes May 11.

With all of last seasons players in the portal except for one atarter and a bench player, it seems clear that Pitino didn't go hard after any of them.

It really begs the question "Was this roster over sold to us as a March NCAA tourney team?"

We lost so it's easy to blame and scrutinize the coaches but it appears that the old Frank McGuire line, "you coach and I'll get the player and beat you every time* applies.

As has been speculated and spoken about about the culture of the last years team etc, from what I heard (and no njfan I will not say my sources lol) that there were serious discipline and behavioral issues on this past team. I mean we obviously know about a couple of incidents. But it appears to have been more widespread.

We couldn't shoot or take care of the ball. Major roster construction failings there. Pure talent over pure fit/balance. Have to have multiple shooters on the floor at all times in the modern game.

My view is last years team was talented enough to be no worse than a bubble team, but lack of coaching, chemistry and discipline killed their chances.
That was my impression too, but why then is Pitino only interested in retaining one rotation player out of 9 or 10 guys who saw significant minutes. If we were right you'd think RP would have 4 or 5 of those guys at the least that he'd be anxious to maximize their potential. But no.

I think he wants to bring in guys with maximum potential, not maximize guys who have maxed much of their potential.

Anderson couldn’t do enough with what he had, especially on offense, but as a defensive coach he couldn’t get many of these guys playing defense. We had big holes in both coaching and roster construction.

I don’t think Pitino wants guys who are unable to play offensive ball. He kept Soriano on board because he’s a good kid, wants to grind and still has quite a ceiling. Traore and Leita seem to be good kids and I’m not sure of their upside at all but likely were not problem kids and are kids who want to be here.

I think he had doubts about a lot of the others and likely off court issues compounded stuff he saw on the court. A handful also chose to leave. We know Posh and Storr were offered to come back. As far as I’m concerned that’s on them. I think Posh has a place and he left that door open.

Aside from that, he already stated he wants certain types of players and they have to love playing basketball. Be obviously has criteria. He is 70 and doesn’t have a million years to build what he wants here. I think within the next month we will likely be very happy with our roster.

Should start a pool.
First in “Rick I trust guy”to turn on him next year
Why ever “turn” on Rick Pitino, one of the greatest recruiters, teachers and coaches of all time.
Furthermore it is not only RP but the undoubted behind the scenes agreements that must have occurred e.g. donors and $; Repole; improved facilities; rebrand to get rid of a red horse and a red storm, really? that’s the best this distinguished university can do?

AND our infrastructure is vastly improved with Mike Cragg & Duke roots, the new pro-sports President I forget his name and Rick Pitino.

Coach Pitino, not to overlook his Celtics and Knick experience, is human, not perfect but HE IS also a wonder worker with positive results everywhere he’s been asked to coach. Could argue he’s the GOAT. And he’s driven and angry and out to prove himself in his last chapter.
Betting against him?
I wouldn’t.

All the best.

You got calmer about this.
That's a good thing!
Lol.

Maybe because of the chemistry and discipline issues and lets remember he definitely offered Posh and Storr the opportunity to return.

We're all on edge. Got to relax.
Guessing a bunch will visit over the next 2 weeks.
Agree waiting for that first 'somebody' to ring the doorbell is indeed nervewracking.
But expect a couple rings this weekend.
I’m trying to recall an Oldies song
Or maybe not so old, about
“waiting for the phone to ring”…???
“waiting for a Diamond ring”…

Patience please.

Brooklyn based prepped out of state early. Very skilled in and around the paint, banger, nice hook shot- looks like a great fit aside Joel

Very excited. He’d be a perfect backup 5 and 4 to Joel and hopefully Ledlum. Foul #s will limit minutes. Look at the kid getting him the ball in the pick and roll…total stud and in the portal.

This team was able to beat UCONN, so not sure how you can ask this question seriously.
