2023-24 Roster

No one has to sell me on Rick Pitino.
Even if he can’t get the players he wants because ST John’s has been a disaster, he will still be successful. For this upcoming season my only worry is he kind of tossed aside talent he could have used.
Hopefully that doesn’t bite us on the ass.
You make a good point, I would've liked it if Posh, Storr, Wusu, Storr, and Yaxel had stayed.
Rick invited 3 of the 4 back, but with reduced roles that they objected to.
I agree with you that RP is confident he can bring players in for next year that better fit his system and are probably more talented.
We've been in basketball purgatory for 23 years. We need air, light, and hope
Got to believe that Rick can get us to a better place in college hoops where this University gets the respect it deserves.
I do.

No questions about the 5 spot!

Not only was Joel by far our best player last season, but he was the one kid who I felt came to play every single game, and he came to play with a positive attitude. There was not on mysterious DNP, as there were with so many other kids. Rick managed to hold on to our MVP, both on and off the court. That is huge.

Yes some posters are being classless but most are not. I would be careful about painting the board with a broad brush.

I will re-iterate what I wrote earlier I have ZERO concern about the outgoing transfers and more importantly about how the current staff is going to upgrade the roster. They will. This is not a knock on the players who are leaving or de-committed but the culture had to change and more importantly the talent level needs to be upgraded. Pitino is here to compete consistently for BE titles. Not just finish in the top 6 or 7. That requires players who have the talent and the right mindset to play in his system. He won big at PC, at Kentucky, at Louisville and at Iona. It is what he does.

FYI-UCONN with a stable coach who had gone to back to back NCAA tourney's and who had been there 4 years had FIVE kids transfer from last year's team. A year ago they had Rashool Diggins, Corey Floyd, Akok Akok, Jalen Gaffney and Matt Garry transfer out. Floyd and Akok transferred within the BE and Gaffney went to FAU where he is in the Final Four. So it is not like they transferred to Division 2 schools they had talent. Combine that with 4 outgoing senior players and Danny Hurley had to replace NINE players.

Of course there were calls that that the program was in disarray and of course those people were right because UCONN took a serious slide and....oh wait....

And that was a program coming off back to back NCAA Tourney bids with a entrenched head coach and staff. As opposed to a program that has waaayyy underperformed the last 2 years, failed even making the lousy NIT and DID MAKE A COACHING change.

BTW Georgetown has SEVEN current players in the portal including Brandon Murray and Primo Spears who are generally regarded as top transfers and neither of them were discouraged by the fact that they will need a waiver to play next year since both transferred into Georgetown last year and played immediately. SEVEN.

I honestly don't think Georgetown fans are discouraged at all. It is a small price to pay to get rid of the prior staff and get a good coach who you know will upgrade the roster and is already doing so.

But Ed Cooley isn’t SJU coach and he’s not RP so the inmates will only have a one sided view of what’s ‘wrong’

Can we see an X next to Curbelo’s name.

David Jones apparently will be next
I thought that Joel Soriano and David Jones were rumored to be a package deal since they are so close friends.

It would be nice to keep at least one other important player from last year's team and I think Jones has the most upside potential if Pitinocan teach him discipline and shot selection.

With Storr, Wusu & Posh already leaving - I actually think it benefits Rick to keep Jones on as a significant player.

Jones, Ledlum & Soriano would make a VERY NASTY frontcourt next season mainly because they'll also all be 21-22 year old seniors with tons of experience and muscle development.

They'd be able crush and outmuscle a freshmen frontcourt made up of all 4 & 5 star 18 year-old recruits in my opinion !!!

KEEP DAVID JONES

Oh man, for some reason it opened to page 1 of this thread. As a collective we were not very accurate on who would be at St. John’s next year.

If Posh is really in the portal with an option to return as he stated in his tweet, Pitino is allowing him to shop himself for either a bigger role somewhere else or for a better nil deal. If true, Posh has not been forced out. He has elected to shop around and Pitino has done him a favor by allowing him to do so.

I can see some people on this site saying this in a month or two. And guess what the Cleveland Indians did in that movie WIN lol

Most of our outgoing players likely made the right move, Storr could be the exception to that. Give it a few months, we'll have a roster that would leave players like Posh very little playing time. There are better playing situations to be had.

You guys are out of your minds about Posh not getting minutes. AJ Storr, ok, but Posh? He might be the best rebounding guard in the country and he won the Big East defensive player of the year. Some people act like he’s inept on offense too. His coach was offensively inept, sure.

Posh is going to make minutes anywhere he plays even if the team has to play 4 guards. End of story,
