2023-24 Roster

All of our transfer portal exits will have an easier path to playing time by leaving. If Pitino gave them the opportunity to work their ass off and earn PT, while knowing the next few months they'll keep seeing new studs/competition added to the roster, it's understandable that 20, 21, 22 year old kids will take the easier path that they have more control over.

This is not directed at anyone here, or anyone at all. It’s a collective comment about the relationship between last year’s group of players and the City of New York - population over 9 million, that’s million. And 3 million more in Nassau and Suffolk, which is attached to Queens.

Of those 12 million most nights at Carnesecca barely 3,000 of them thought spending a dime to come out and watch this group play was a worthy investment of their time and money. And if you watched them play together it was understandable. They were bad, and setting defensive “records” that fly in the face of a team working hard or expending a lot of effort. They also carried on a lot and showed zero respect to their coach during timeouts. They were in a word, unlikeable.

I’m not an insider and I don’t know who were and were not problems. But all evidence I saw was a completely dysfunctional team, and now SJU has filed a lawsuit basically stating such as well.

I am very ready to move on.

I hope Pitino feels he can get Kieta to be a productive player by 24 and he turns out to be a good keeper along with Soriano.

Keita and Traore? Those guys may be great assets at practice or on the bench but they’re not deterring any recruits from coming
Good points and yeah, they won't deter any recruits, just that with Ledlum very possible, Rick is focused on wings / guards, and not the front court, but totally guessing.

I would be astounded if Curbelo is invited back. A high school player wouldn't get away with his on court antics and disrespect, and that's just on the court. I soent some time with him and think he is a good kid basically. I've been told he is one of a very few kids on the team who was always with his nose in a schoolbook. I hope he gets his act together.

Posh wanted to go pro after his frosh season, but decided against. He made a little NIL money as a soph but it was felt when he decided to come back that junior season would be his last here. He did make the most NIL of any sju player.

In the meantime he has put on solid weight, great if he was a linebacker but 200 lbs is too much weight for a quard to be superfast IMO. He went from being Sonic the hedgehog as a frosh to merely human on defense.

I was hoping he'd be this Pitino iteration of Billy Donovan, you know , best shape of his life, and a terror on the court.

Still and all he wasn't a reliable outside shooter and was not exactly a field general at PG. I wouldn't be shocked at him playing pro somewhere around the world next year.

If his nose was out of joint because Soriano and Traore were invited to the press conference and not him, well he really has to look in the mirror. Perhaps RP knows something that we don't know about behind the scenes stuff.

I will say NIL has created some legends in their own minds. Not saying Posh is one, but it is a factor in how some kids behave.

The only evidence I needed to see of our toxic culture was that Xavier game when Anderson was wearing a wire. That was dysfunction at its finest. I was shocked a Big East team was operating like that.

I wish the players the well. But clearly a fresh start was needed for all.

Regarding Clayton, I don't know how much more blatant this could be:

“When I went into the [transfer] portal, we had talked,” Clayton said of Pitino. “He basically said if I want to, I can come over there. He would really enjoy that.”

Asked what interests him about St. John’s, Clayton said: “Coach P, simple as that. I came to New York to play for Coach Pitino. Coach P left Iona, that’s one of the reasons I’m leaving. That’s it.”

Pitino is one of the greatest college basketball coaches of all time, but I have to shake my head when he heralds Traore, but doesn’t show some love to Posh, and Wusu.

He has raised my level of expectations from him. I expect immediate results. Put up or shut up.

What if he and Soriano were literally the only 100 percent non-jerks on the team? You would be expecting immediate results from a kid mostly retained for culture-setting purposes.

The job to perform is Coach Pitino’s. He is putting together the team he wants. In what universe is Traore more valuable than Posh, Wusu or the others.

My last post for the day. First I trust in Rick completely and what I’m about to say isn’t a criticism. He wants his own players that’s fine.

For me personally one of the things that made Lavins first season special is the team sane players sucked under Norm so personally I was hoping the first season would be a turnaround with some of the core guys like Posh and Wusu. Again it’s not a criticism and some left on their own. it’s just what I was hoping for to see these kids improve as a team under Coach.

Hey I still miss my flip phone

Just my opinion nothing more nothing less
This pretty much nails how I'm feeling.
