2023-24 Roster

I want some continuity. Again, I have no inside info at all, but Posh and Dylan seemed like real good kids who worked hard. We couldn’t build with any of these kids in the fold? They’re disposable because they weren’t successful under a bad coach?

This is not the college basketball I grew up watching. Still rooting like heck for the Johnnies and have faith in Pitino but this turns my stomach.
You’re not gonna get continuity with a regime change. That’s impossible. Maybe, just maybe, we CAN get some continuity under this new regime. It sucks these guys are leaving, but it’s between them and Pitino. We were never winning with Anderson, it was crystal clear. These young men are doing what they think is best, there’s nothing us fans can do about it.

And, the college basketball of our heydays is long gone. You have to accept that. Our program hadn’t accepted it and that’s why we’re light years behind the majority of the Big East.

Dylan drove me crazy at times in his 2nd year, but I really came to appreciate him this year. Very easy kid to root for, always 110% effort and did a lot of things well. He will do fine wherever he lands.
Wusu always gave you the Good the bad and the Ugly. Sometimes on same possession. He did play hard and I think if reigned in would have been more efficient.
He may be gone but the career shots blocked record will never be broken.

Back in the day it was fun rooting for the players. No more. Maybe Pitino will bring in a few one and dones. Personally, If I was a four or five star player, I'd be hesitant to come to a school where the coach and the fan base looks at you like you're shit if you don't turn out to be Chris Mullin or Walter Berry.

I love it when "fans" trash players they rooted for less than a month ago...even implying they're not up to Pitino's moral standards.
“Back in the day”? For someone who would pound the lectern claiming this program is backwards and better suited for the MAAC, it sure looks like you are now caught up in the past.

The successful programs have churned one and done players for a long time. But with the advent of the NIL, that is no longer the case. Kids are staying in college, but looking for better NIL deals.

Pitino may bring in one kid from the university of Washington and another from Washington State University with a big assist from it.

Will you not root for them because they came here for NIL money?

SJU has moved in the direction of how big time college football and basketball is run. It may stink for nostalgia and purity, but so has a lot of other more important things.

Unfortunately, being a consistent winner is nearly impossible without the cutthroat means to get there.

The only way (if then) to achieve any roster continuity in today's game is to have coaching continuity. There was close to universal consensus that the SJU coaching change was a good move. All of this comes with that. I'm not telling anyone how to feel, or to like it. I don't like it.

The reason I'm not upset about the transfers out is because the time to be upset that everything was getting blown up again was months ago when it became clear Anderson wasn't going to survive. Right now, I'm more focused on who is being brought in.

I don’t like this at all. Hard to root for a bunch of transfers and one and dones. I guess this is the state of college basketball. Yuck!
They were offered a position on next years team and turned it down. Their choice, NOT pushed out. No guarantees offered so they left. Your assessment is inaccurate. Everyone has to earn their PT is way it should be. That is path to winning !

When every single player of significance(LJ, GWill, Earl, etc) left over the past few years, there was a handful of posters who essentially said "don't let the door hit you on the way out". Some posters even bashed the departing players. Even Champ to some degree, although he left go pro. He was maligned by some as "not being clutch", etc. For cryin out loud, the kid carried our offense, carried himself with class and was a 2 time all big east player. Guess it's just the nature of the beast.

Really sorry to see Dylan going too. Loved his tenacity and unwillingness to give in to anyone. Guy would do anything asked of him. I wish him well and will follow him closely.

Very interested to see who Pitino brings in. Since he’s pushing all his chips to the center of the table, I want a tournament team next year. No excuses. I believe he could have coached these kids up, but he knows better than me. Having said that, go get players that can win now. I don’t want to hear that it was too late or better players weren’t available. I’m all in on Pitino, but we as fans can and should be as cut throat as he is. Time to put up Coach.

Wow some people are like Rome is burning. Continuity is what got us years and years of not winning. We aren't losing great players just ok to decent players on a bad team. Remember Rick has only been here a week. One week! I got one is happy that he is house cleaning. Start from ground up. Change the culture. Of course we lose players more than gain as it's one week. Just stop the crying some of you lol

Not sure of the hand wringing here. Players now get paid via NIL. Players have free movement. Anyone remember Greg Williams, Earlington. etc that just picked up and transferred. How is this different? Kids see it as a business and so do schools. This is and has been a “modified” version of professional basketball for several years now. Look at the number of “kids” in the portal. The 4 year scholarship system is long dead and gone. I was NOT in favor of it but my opinion doesn’t matter. I was told that kids deserve to get paid. Well, here we are. St. John’s is just catching up. They could continue to ignore the current world and continue losing or apply the same methods every other school to at least compete.

Can’t say it any better. We haven’t won a frickin NCAA game in 22 years. 22!!! I was 24 years old. I’m 46 now, I’ll be 47 by next March.

For a supposed top-10 ALL-TIME program that’s literally insane. Anybody who’s a fan of this program should be upset about that. We watch all our rivals make the tournament and win games (even, win championships) and we talk about random games from 30-40 years ago. It’s all really sad if you ask me.

Anybody ok with that definitely has some kind of angle, illness, or just loves punishment. I’ve been making jokes about the complaining in my various, little ways, but I just saw a few posts this morning and I couldn’t take it anymore.
I'm 47 and basically grew up at Alumni Hall and was conditioned to believe St. John's would always be a national power. I've been deeply upset with the program for the past 23 years, and not OK at all with the recent state of things, and wholeheartedly welcome RP and an almost complete roster turnover. I am thrilled we will likely soon have a pipeline of 5* one and dones. I also enjoy talking about the past in the appropriate forum links. Likely a function of my middle age. I don't think they're mutually exclusive.

SMH really . Put up? Rick has been here a week and sju has had more positive vibes and press. Some people coming out of the woodwork . Yes let's bring back those players who didn't get invited to the NIT. Cause that's the culture you want to continue .

Didn’t ask for it to continue and not coming out of the woodwork. You’re just makIng up your own arguments. Have a good day.
