2023-24 Roster

Think Rick thinks can do better.
Tapes he watched on him this year will look awful.
Predict he leaves
Perhaps. But Posh would be a rotation player on every team in America. In a full rebuild scenario, he should not be a castaway candidate.

Now if he wants a different role and/or a fresh start, that’s on Posh.

It is extremely hard to find any team that can play 3 players who shoot any volume at above a 40% clip. Honestly, I think you'd really have to search to find a team that could realistically do that. And my guess would be you're looking at the deep mid majors or you're having fun with the numbers (ie I just looked up STJ and we could roll out Stanley, Mathis, and Storr but it goes against the spirit of what you are suggesting).

What would be fantastic and what we lacked, was 3 starters who could shoot at a consistent at least 35% clip within BE play. That would open up a lot of room for Joel and create driving lanes. As AJ plays more and gets used to the speed of the BE on defense (or potentially bulks up a little if he wants to play more of the 3) he'd could be an key cog in your plan. It also highlights a weakness in Posh's game, because the defense can take a step and a half back and take aways Posh's two most potent offensive weapons, driving to hoop or passing to Joel. I guess what I'm saying is if we have 3 starters or even 2 starters and a sixth man that have the athleticism to compete in the Big East and shoot 40% from three everyone guaranteeing a final four next year would be right.

If we find those guys in portal, I'll still be bummed about losing some old favorites, but that feeling will easily be tempered by march of next year.
Xavier had it
Marquette had 2 plus cam Jones
Uconn had 2 plus Hawkins

One thing I’d say about your post above which was well done, I don’t agree at all that AJ has to bulk up to play the 3. He is built better than most 3’s in college already and is as good a vertical athlete as you’ll find pretty much anywhere. I never understood the “2” label snd have thought all along he is much more “3”.

Storr
Gardner
Jones
Wusu
King
Soriano
Juco kid
Those are all Anderson recruits. I would insert Posh over King if you are losing Posh. Jones is a Pitino project. Has skills but lacks discipline. He's one of the basketball IQ kids we talked about. Perhaps a better teacher raises that IQ dramatically. Wusu will be a bench player in Pitino world. His issue is same as Posh......willing to take whatever role coach wants.

AJ can get away with playing the 3 in college against certain teams but this kid has NBA potential imo.
By the time he's a junior he has to show 2 guard capability because he has the body, shooting skills and length but needs to add defense and ball handling to his repertoire.

I believe that NBA potential is as a 3 + D (gulp long way to go) wing. Not as a 2 guard. Don’t see that type of creation and “shiftiness” that NBA guards have.

Posh is better obviously but can put King in a small role whereas Posh would be a main component.

Unless there was something with Posh behind the scenes, I expect him back and think a lot of how Pitino has handled him since Tuesday is motivation. I think under Pitino we see a much better Posh than we saw last year. Pitino knows what Posh did against top competition his first two years and will have that player as a starting point. Posh will also be 20 pounds lighter.
I don't see him starting, I think Clayton comes and will start.
There's nothing wrong with being the sixth man.

My take on all this Posh talk is this. If Pitino says he fits then he fits, if Pitino says he doesn’t then he doesn’t. It’s a simple as that. We have a Hall of Fame Coach now, a guy we all clamored for. Let’s just let him do his job and everything will be fine. We all like Posh , but it’s Pitino’s call , regardless of how any of us feel personally no of us know better than Ricky P.
Everyone wants to play coach.

When Pitino watches the David Jones tapes, his first reactions are going to be, WTF...a one man turnover/one shot and done/drive gets blocked/freeze out teammates...machine. Between years of DePaul and SJU, too much undisciplined basketball.

CRP will find better.

Jones think would / could be bench piece. Good Jones plays, bad Jones sits.
Don’t see Posh ok with that

Geez, just noticed Posh is off your list. Disagree. Obviously, totally RP's call and I could be wrong but seems to me Posh's defensive intensity alone would be enough to have him on Pitino's team.
And no need to belabor this. We'll know soon enough.

Serby article again says bringing in 7-8 and roster needs total overhaul.
First criticism of Pitino though is that he totally described Walter Berry inaccurately.

He'll play his share of minutes during the game, in game with a 6-7pnt lead in the 5minutes till the end, I'd have Ponds right on the opponents PG to harass the whole way up on every one of their possessions. More times then not the opposing PG would pass it instead of trying to bring it up.

LW, given what Pitino said about Traore, surprised he's not on your list. I expect we'll have a good idea who is staying in less than a week.

My feeling is that if Posh convinces Pitino he will work extremely hard both on the court and in the classroom and will accept whatever role Rick sees him in, and Posh himself is ok with that role, he'll be back. Time will tell.

I agree RSR. Creighton, an excellent shooting team had only one guy shoot it over 40% from three. The had 2 or 3 other guys shoot it in the high 30’s from three but only one who shot over 40%
