Rick has to substitute praise for minutes for two kids with high ceilings that may get limited minutes as freshmen but significant minutes as sophs. Retaining young talent is a problem in the portal era where freshman talent may sit more than they'd like. Rick is just getting ahead of that early.

Rick Pitino made taking a social media break, while I was on vacation very difficult.

WTE Top 25: Duke or Kansas at No. 1 for the final edition?
With less than a month to go 'til the season begins, we're calling it: Kansas remains No. 1. The rest of the field sees some swapping around, but no new faces.
St. John's cracks this week's pre-season ESPN Top 25.
#34 Wilcher was finally added, which cut our high school ranking in half. #63 Ledlum still hasn't been added, though, so our transfer class dropped one spot.
23-24 incoming class rankings:
High school class: #39 (Wilcher added)
Transfer class: #7 (Ledlum not yet added)
Overall: #27 (will go up once Ledlum is added)
Looking at these numbers, especially the transfer class given those players have experience, it makes sense that some voters are ranking us. Sure we've turned over basically the entire team, but we also retained our best player and gained the best coach. Worthy of a preseason ranking IMO.

2023-24 preseason rankings. These are ALL the rankings I could find online, regardless of whether they included St. John's or not. I only included relevant publications, so I didn't include KUfan143's blog. I also didn't include publications that haven't updated since April/May as those rankings are too outdated.

Looking like we'll have at least 4, maybe 5 teams ranked preseason. Would be a record for the realigned Big East, which generally only has a couple teams ranked preseason. Last season I believe was the first time we achieved 5 teams ranked in a week (for a few weeks, but not preseason).

I was disappointed we didn’t draw Towson for the Charleston Classic. Been waiting on them since they beat us 30 years ago at Alumni Hall.
You sound like me wanting the Yankees to beat the Pirates and Cardinals for revenge of the ‘61 and ‘64 World Series the two major disappointments of my ute.

Honestly, while I understand that there are a lot of new parts to integrate, I would be shocked if it came down to "last one in". Not sure that conclusion is warranted by what RP has done so far. I know we have to prove it out on the floor after decades of ineptitude, but I just don't see "last one" as the likely scenario. I think we should be a solid tourney team. JMO.
