2022 Yankees

game 103. down and up, down and out.
every game in which 2 or more yank bullpenners give up a first of year homer,
thhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhe yankees lose.
dj is hot. donaldson is cold.

history 101.
consensus was the yanks badly needed lefty power sticks, ergo rizzo and gallo.
consensus was the yanks needed another out field stick, ergo benny for 3 nobody pitchers.

it was a good trade based on what, results? They have gotten nothing out of Gallo whose time as a Yankee is probably about to come to a close. As far as the prospects we gave up, time will tell.

We do need to wait and see if Benintendi does the job with the Yankees and if the trade works out. The bottom line is the results on the field is what matters. Is he better than Gallo, who isn’t at this point and time. He just doesn’t move the needle for me not especially when he is sharing the outfield with Hicks. You can be excited about it if you want, I am not.
How can a trade be judged as a "good trade" when its made, based on "results" that haven't occurred yet??

It was a good (not great) trade at the time for several reasons:
1) It filled a huge need.
2) The cost was low
3) The player had some skills and some upside as a lefty moving to Yankee Stadium.

Not every trade works out in the long rung, but because the player didn't live up to expectations while in NY doesn't mean it wasn't a good move to make the trade in the first place.

I am not going to keep arguing with you especially when you say "They did make a good trade. Just not for a good player as Gallo's recent numbers proved at the time." It hasn't worked out is the bottom line.

As I said at the beginning, I hope I am wrong and that the Benintendi trade works, like the Rizzo one did and unlike the Gallo one.

More about Effros.

They traded one of their better pitching prospects but get a guy who stats look pretty good, is still south of 30 and you have control over him for as he doesn't hit arbitration for at least another season. Definitely needed the bullpen help. I still would like to see them get Robertson.

I am afraid Schmidt will get sent back down to make room.

Not sure I like adding Luis Trivino to this deal. A couple of reasons:

1. In general, I don't like trading for other teams' closers, and expecting them to be setup men when they arrive here. Yes, there are instances where it has worked, but more often then not, it doesn't, especially when the move is done in season

and:

2. He's not that good. I know that reliever ERA's can be deceiving, but 6 and a half is a lot. And, he's been healthy all year, so it can't just be one bad outing.

NEW YORK -- The Yankees have been among baseball’s busiest clubs in advance of Tuesday’s 6 p.m. ET Trade Deadline, bolstering their staff for the postseason push on Monday by officially acquiring right-handed starter Frankie Montas and right-handed reliever Lou Trivino from the Athletics.
Deadline special: Tues., 2-6 p.m. CT, MLB Network, MLB.com, MLB App
New York sent left-hander Ken Waldichuk (New York's No. 5 prospect/No. 70 overall, per MLB Pipeline), right-hander Luis Medina (No. 10), left-hander JP Sears (No. 20) and second baseman Cooper Bowman (No. 21) to the Athletics in exchange for Montas and Trivino.
With Luis Castillo traded to the Mariners on Friday, Montas, 29, was the best remaining starting pitcher on the market. Though he has been battling shoulder injuries this season, Montas has been sharp for the A's, posting a 3.18 ERA with 109 strikeouts in 104 2/3 innings.
The right-hander has a career 3.73 ERA over seven seasons and finished sixth in AL Cy Young voting last year after going 13-9 with a 3.37 ERA and 207 strikeouts in 187 innings.
Earlier in the afternoon, the Yankees completed a swap with the Cubs to import right-handed reliever Scott Effross in exchange for right-hander Hayden Wesneski, who had been the Yankees’ No. 7 prospect.
Combined with the club’s recent trade with the Royals for outfielder Andrew Benintendi, the additions of Montas, Trivino and Effross figure to bolster a roster that entered play on Monday with a Major League-leading 69 victories.

Lou Trivino seals the win

Montas, 29, is 4-9 with a 3.18 ERA in 19 starts this season, his seventh in the Majors. In 104 2/3 innings, Montas has scattered 91 hits and allowed 44 runs (37 earned), with 12 homers. He has struck out 109 batters against just 28 walks, and he is earning $5.05 million this season. Montas is arbitration-eligible next year and can be a free agent in 2024.

Trivino, 30, is 1-6 with a 6.47 ERA and 10 saves in 39 appearances, finishing 23 games. In 32 innings, Trivino has permitted 46 hits and 25 runs (23 earned), walking 14 against 45 strikeouts. Trivino is earning $3 million this season and is arbitration-eligible through 2024, eligible for free agency in 2025.
The Yankees have sputtered in the pitching department of late, especially after season-ending injuries to relievers Chad Green and Michael King, plus an injury to right-hander Miguel Castro and a brief run of inconsistency for All-Star closer Clay Holmes, who surrendered a ninth-inning homer to the Royals’ Salvador Perez on Sunday.
Effross and Trivino should help in the relief department, while Montas provides New York with a solid starter to slot behind ace right-hander Gerrit Cole in a playoff series. All-Star right-hander Nestor Cortes is on an innings watch, while right-hander Luis Severino has not pitched since July 13 due to injury.

Wow, didn’t have to give up any of their minor league shortstops. Gonna miss Sears but needed a good starter which Sears might be in the future. Waldichuk was moving quickly up the ladder this year and was in Triple A.

Really donkt know anything about the reliever but as pointed out by SJU61982, that ERA is down right ugly
