How many thought the same about Gallo?Getting an all-star, leadoff, lefty bat who can play CF for three pitchers who about to be rule 5 eligible and were never going to pitch in the Bronx as a Yankee doesn't get you hot?
It's a darn good move.
Sorry but I’m not following. While Gallo was a lefty with a good glove the comparisons completely end there. How many thought the same about Gallo?
Time will tell.
Comparison isn’t between the type of players but that the Yankees had made a good trade for someone who filled a void and would help them. Gallo has not.Sorry but I’m not following. While Gallo was a lefty with a good glove the comparisons completely end there.
Well they gave up A LOT more for Gallo then Benintendi. That's a certainty. But Gallo had another year left where Benintendi is a FA after the year. Not sure Yankees were filling a void last year. They were grasping at straws. I mean Rizzo came out of nowhere.Comparison isn’t between the type of players but that the Yankees had made a good trade for someone who filled a void and would help them. Gallo has not.
Well Baseball Reference only uses 500 as a barometer. As it’s been done for 100 years.
You picked 3 teams besides Yankees and Yankees have only played 2 of those teams. I’m no scientist but hardly a representative sample size.
If only there was more games against the Mets……We don’t need a representative sample size, head to head is fine.
1) Swept by Mets 2 games to 0
2) 7 games vs Astros W2 L5. Of those 2 wins, both were late inning Walk off wins . So almost swept by Astros AND Mets!
How many? Zero. Not one person who follows baseball thought the Yankees were getting a very good player when they traded for Gallo. Not one.How many thought the same about Gallo?

Believe his time will tell comment was about Benintendi not Gallo. How many? Zero. Not one person who follows baseball thought the Yankees were getting a very good player when they traded for Gallo. Not one.
Bennintendi has a career BA of .279, Gallo has hit .210 r higher exactly twice in his career (.223 & .256)
Time will tell? It already has.
And a manager.Yankees need to find a closer
Sorry way off base and totally incorrect. The narrative last year was the Yankees made a good trade and got help someone who could help in Gallo witch him being an outfielder which they needed and a left handed bat which they also needed. someone who did strike out but also got on base (taking walks), hit for power and was a good outfielder with an arm who could probably play center. That was the talk about Gallo. How many? Zero. Not one person who follows baseball thought the Yankees were getting a very good player when they traded for Gallo. Not one.

They need help in the bullpen and the starting rotation. Holmes has been good in the closer role but it is his first time in such a role. A safety net (Robertson) would be nice.Yankees need to find a closer
They did make a good trade. Just not for a good player as Gallo's recent numbers proved at the time.Sorry way off base and totally incorrect. And the time will tell remark wasn‘t obviously not about Gallo who outside of the strikeouts has been nothing but an automatic out.
it was a good trade based on what, results? They have gotten nothing out of Gallo whose time as a Yankee is probably about to come to a close. As far as the prospects we gave up, time will tell. They did make a good trade. Just not for a good player as Gallo's recent numbers proved at the time.
They gave up 4 guys who were about to become rule 5 eligible and who were never going to play in pinstripes for a GG level corner OF who was a career .200 hitter with some pop, and a much needed bullpen arm. They did this because the guys they were rotating through LF (Andujar, Locastro, Davis, Tauchman, Wade, Gardner, etc.) were hitting .212 at the trade deadline. They needed an every day LF because Gardner had to play CF at the age of 73 with Hicks out for the year. So they rolled the dice on Gallo because the price was right and maybe he'd hit better in Yankee stadium. Good move for a so-so player to fill a gaping hole in the lineup.
Of course the "time will tell" remark was about Binnentendi, not Gallo. Point is he's already a similar player defensively and a much better hitter than Gallo ever was. We don't need to wait to see that. It's right there in front of our faces. Now if your going to take the "we'll need to see if he hits as a Yankee" before you can evaluate the deal point of view, then you'd have to say the same thing if we went out and got Juan Soto, and that would just be silly.
