2022 Mets

Kingman was an unusual player. A lousy 1B who played mostly in the NL but he hit a ton of home runs. He led the NL in OPS his 30 year old season which would get him a pretty good contract in today's world.
So true. Didn’t the Yankees acquire him at one point to keep him away from Fenway and the Red Sox? The Green monster was made for Kingman.

I was at a seat cushion giveaway at a Shea game years ago. Mets were down something ridiculous like 8-0. 9th inning, Kingman launched a bomb that basically went over the foul pole. A totally meaningless blast. Fans started throwing the cushions on the field. Game was delayed several minutes as they scooped the cushions off the field. They had to beg people to stop throwing them.

A lot of weird thing happened at Shea in the mid to late 70's through the early 80's besides winning. I was a kid back then but went to a lot of games saw a lot of fights, heard some pretty profane things being chanted. I always thought bat day was one of the strangest. They would give people full size bats and as you said the Mets were usually getting killed. A lot of free time to bang those bats on the seats as a kid. Times have changed.

After they had a few problems I remember they tried giving you the giveaway item when EXITING the Stadium instead of ENTERING. That creates its own problems so I don’t think it lasted.

I'll take the sweep but Peterson sucks! Why did Buck put him in? Max could have had the win.
3 game lead on Atlanta also feels better.

Nido's sac was key. I'm sure the braves were expecting to see a different result in this series. Good to have day off after the intensity of this series. Now on to Miami and Alcantara for another challenge.
Love Marte--strikes out first 3 times and then has 2 hits.

PS-when ESPN cut to Boston game I was shocked at their yellow mustard uniform jersey's

Thrilled with the two wins. Lugo was the best he has been and they will need him down the stretch. Peterson may need to get adjusted to coming out of the bullpen. Walk to start inning was awful but I will say Nido dropped the 2-0 pitch or it is called a strike and ball four was a strike. Anyway those things happen and we still won.

That was a tough spot to put Peterson in but it shows Buck believes in him which could bode well for the future. We obviously need to add a reliever and hopefully May can help us and possibly even McGill if he gets back. Peterson has really helped when we needed an extra starter and will help us again at some point. I just want to see him prove he can handle high leverage relief assignments before we try it again.

Peterson was thrown into the fire. I felt bad. As a reliever you do not have the luxury of a bad inning.
I think McGill would be a better option out of the pen because he throws harder and is usually good early in games.
Peterson is more of a “feel” pitcher. He would do well being DeGrom or another starter’s caddy for multiple innings.
A righty DH bat and a two relievers is my hope. And of course if DeGrom is anywhere close to his mean, then the Mets are in very good shape moving forward.
Scherzer, DeGrom, Carrasco, Walker is a very good rotation for the post season.

Drew Smith to IL with a strained lat muscle. We need multiple relievers.
