Greg, I hate this trade. A one dimensional player who does one thing well….hit right handed pitching. The Mets have stressed versatility so what do they do? Sign a guy who really can’t play 1B his ONLY position besides DH. On top of that, the Mets could have had him without trading ANYONE In the off season. He’s been released 3x (Mariners, Jays, Brewers). He signed a 1 year $1M deal with Pirates. In other words Cohen seat cushion money. Giving the Pirates someone who could breathe should have been enough. Not a ML reliever.Worse is that they gave up Holderman who I thought was a good bullpen pitcher.
I’m with you I despise this trade and definitely don’t think he deserved giving up an armGreg, I hate this trade. A one dimensional player who does one thing well….hit right handed pitching. On top of all that, what’s the rush? The deadline is over a week away. They easily could have waited for a better option and circled back to Pittsburgh on deadline day. No one was circling for Voglebach. No one.
Fellas. Agree completely. Unnecessary trade. A career .213 hitter. Bullpen areas so important in this era with these starting pitchers barely going 6 inningsGreg, I hate this trade. Lay back new addition
Andrew, I agree wholeheartedly. I think that this was a terrible trade and Holderman had the potential to be a really good reliever.I hadn't been paying much attention to the Mets transactions because when you are scoring two runs in two games its hard to focus on that. That said I also hate this trade. I have no idea how good Holderman will be in the long run and maybe we add another good reliever but Holderman in a small sample size had the third lowest WHIP of any of our relievers, is relatively young, is tall with a good fastball. Vogelbach is 6' 270 and has limited ability to play the field. Maybe he hits a few home runs that helps us but this looks like a trade that a team makes when they are giving up on the division.
It drives me insane when a guy comes in an walks not one, but two batters. Huge lead and he walks two! Ridiculous. I know he’s not trying to walk guys but this is the big leagues. 9 gloves on the field. Throw strikes. Our bullpen is a disgrace. Thank goodness that we have Diaz to clean up the mess. They should have traded Rodrigez, not Holderman.
I'll take the win but we need some retooling in our bullpen.
Bill, thank you for that video clip. It literally brought tears to my eyes.It drives me insane when a guy comes in an walks not one, but two batters. Huge lead and he walks two! Ridiculous. I know he’s not trying to walk guys but this is the big leagues. 9 gloves on the field. Throw strikes.
Anyone see Gil Hodges daughter give his induction speech. Very nice. She did an A++ job. Worth a listen.
