2022 Mets

Huge win. Mets are short handed but this has been a “no excuses“ team. Nice to have one of your “Aces” make a statement. A loss with Scherzer on the mound would have been a tough way to start the series. Credit the offense for getting just enough. Max did the rest. Well, hats off to Edwin Diaz he might be the best closer in baseball right now. Fingers crossed.

Now if we could only get this deGrom kid back.

With the expanded playoffs both the Mets and Braves will probably clinch spots. Of course getting one of the two best records, keeps you away from opening with a best of three game series.
But for the Mets to make a World Series run they need to get a DH (which should not cost an exorbitant amount). The DH spot (sans the occasional days Alonso is not there) has been a black hole.
They also need another arm, ideally for the bullpen. But if a decent starter is available, that works too as they piggyback a couple of starters together.
And it goes without saying, health. If DeGrom is even close to his mean, then let’s roll.

I couldn’t agree more. I suggested a while back a bat, it’s a “sneaky” need. I know others agree. Fizzy suggested Drury from the Reds who we had a year or so a go.

Neither JD Davis or Dom Smith have seized the opportunity. Davis can’t touch a strike above his waist and Dom hasn’t hit a HR in over a year. They are good teammates but it’s just not good enough for a team with big dreams. I hope they don’t make a mistake with Nelson Cruz. He just looked washed up. I hope Eppler sees it the same way. Finding a bat at a reasonable price should not be that difficult. As teams unload, finances is not a Mets problem. Hope he gets something done.

They need to make a move for a solid reliever. Greg Soto is probably out of reach but I wouldn't be shocked if the Rays trade one of theirs as they have a bunch coming of the IL. JD would be trade bait and he can slide in at 3B now that Wander is done til September.

I wouldn’t mind Michael Fulmer from the Tigers. Having a solid season. Can fill the 8th inning and might be able to spot start in a pinch. I believe he is a FA after this season. Talk about closing the circle as he was the primary piece to land Yoenis Cespedes. 7 years later. Might be worth it.

Disappointing loss tonight. Buck stayed with Peterson one batter too long. Lugo not sharp in his second inning in relief. This was a winnable game but bad moves and poor execution doomed us. On to tomorrow. I'll take a series win, if we can get it, right now.

Have no problem with Peterson being kept in at that point.
Can't win scoring one run.
Our lineup for this series is terrible. Reminds me of prior Wilpon years stitching together a lineup of aging vets and AAA players.

I liked leaving Peterson in and he did his job for the game. This is about a month now of not getting the big two out hits or moving runners with productive outs. Lugo is painful.

This loss was more about the lack of offense than pitching. Mets had plenty of opportunities and didn’t capitalize. The Braves starter was out before 5 innings and he’s been an innings eater for them. They had him throw a ton of pitches but they just couldn’t String together hits.

The bottom of the lineup was terrible. However, hard to go all Wilpon when they are missing Marte (injury) and McNeil (paternity). The problem here is JD Davis and Dom Smith are not getting it done. Depth is a problem. Not putting Marte on the IL is also making it more obvious as they are playing short handed.

The Mets need to make some bench moves to add a DH. I know I am being completely redundant but I think they are trying but the trade deadline is 3 weeks away. Teams will wait to deal.

Morton today is scary. Big game pitcher and he is rounding into form. Maybe today is the day the bats breakout but gonna be a tough one.

Not a great matchup with Bassitt either. His one weakness has been the long ball and that’s the Braves strength. Playing without Marte and McNeil made this a tough series to win. At least Scherzer got us a win.

Very solid looking win today. Bassitt pitched solid and once he got the lead he did what he had to do. Lindor showed up big. 3 run HR and a beautiful throw with two runners in scoring position. Our reward? 4 more Road games in Chicago. Mets have played more games on the road. The good news is after the All Star break they are home. Bad news? It’s the Padres and Yankees.

Great win in biggestseries to date this year. On to Chicago and NO let downs.

Great discussion on TV about bullpens today. I was surprised the league does not mandate that bullpen mounds must replicate the mound on the field. Really big disadvantage--I'm sure home team bullpen mound is a duplicate of the one on the field.

Bassitt came through like the Ace he was on the Athletics of Oakland. Definitely like the mentality which is only getting stronger with the Scherz in the dugout.

Keep it going in Chicago. Classic let down series with the break coming up. Good thing is the Chi is straight garbage.

Lindor has 64 Ribbies and 16 ding-dongs.

His BA is down and some times doesn't come up with the big hit but on pace for 30 and 100.

I would think they should be regulation height? I think there is a standard. I guess some teams make the Visitor bullpen “flat” ground. LOL Sounds like a very Red Auerbach thing to do!

Home and Away will balance out so should be Mets advantage. Lets go win one more series before the break.

One good thing about my Prime MLB package is that, despite missing most of the game, I’m watching the replay right now this evening. I know that they win, but this is like rewatching a Redmen win. LOL!
Great win today and great away series win. I can’t wait to see all the home runs. I believe that all the runs scored in today’s game were on home runs.
