2020 Jets

This will tick off the "defense wins championships" crowd. A lie by the way. Today's NFL almost always requires a strong offense with plenty of weapons (WR's/TE/RB) who can score TD's and put 30+ pts on the board consistently. Your defense can't be terrible if you want to win, but offense at the moment is much more important.
Agree. Defense isn't winning much in the Mahomes/Jackson (and soon to be Lawrence) era unless it's paired with an offense capable of some fireworks.

I agree that the days of teams having their defense carry them to a title with an average or below average offense are in the past, at least barring significant rules changes.

But Defense DOES matter.

Going back to 1971, there are only 3 times where the Super Bowl winner had a defense that was in the bottom 1/3rd of the league in Points Allowed.

41 times they had a defense in the top 10.

I just pray that if the Jets get Lawrence that they actually pair him with a brilliant offensive mind. Don't freaking hire someone like Robert Saleh to be your head coach if you land the No. 1 pick.
How do you feel about turning your franchise over to Dabo Sweeny and paying him 8-10m a year for 5-7 years?

That might be what it takes to ensure that Lawrence doesn't go back to school for another year just to avoid playing for the Jets.
He already makes just under 10 million per with tremendous job security where he has the program rolling so why would he want to go to such an unstable situation as the Jets organization provides unless of course he wants the challenge of coaching pro ball.

I would take Dabo if it meant getting Lawrence. But like bama rightfully said, no way in hell does he leave a top college football program being the hero in his city and state, and doing nothing but winning. I guess he could use the Jets as leverage to get more $, but no way he'd ever take Jets job. I never would in that position at least. The ownership is clueless and has not had a strong offense for 20 yrs. TWENTY.

That's a fair question. You might have to pay him more than that to lure him. The issue isn't whether he is hunting for the job. The issue is whether you ae willing to do what it takes to ensure Lawrence ends up a Jet. If you are thinking that Sweeny wouldn't be interested in such an unstable situation, then you should be terrified that Lawrence feels the same way.
You willing to give total control to Sweeny, pay him 15m a year for 8-10 years to make sure Lawrence enters the draft?

Answering your hypothetical question-No, and I would love Lawrence.

That was my first thought, but I wasn't sure he would do it. He'd probably want more control than reasonable to give a college coach right off the bat, no matter how good he is.

I was also thinking someone like Mike Leach, but he might be too weird for the pros.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Eric Bieniemy actually calls many plays that aren't first drawn up by Reid, or else I'd say maybe it's time to give him a shot.

I agree with you. I might consider it for a shorter term like 5 years, so if it doesn't work out you still have Lawrence with the balance of his career under a new guy.

I think Penei Sewell is going to be every bit as good as Orlando Pace so he's a great fall back if Lawrence stiffs you.
Just nine more losses guys
all my friends who are die hard jet fans are literally rooting each game like it's the super bowl for them to lose. My buddy texted me today that if it wasn't for Covid he'd be having jet parties at his house for everyone wanting them to lose :)

In a way it’s the most intense Jets games have been in years lol. Because there are a lot of bad teams in the league this year. The Cowboys are a complete train wreck they might not win another game. The jags have one win and if you look at their schedule they may not get any more.

The jets might need to go a legit 0-16 to ensure they get the first pick. And that’s actually hard to do.

I’ll tell you one thing for sure, they are gonna lose next week. 20.5 point underdogs as of now

I'm deathly afraid that they will somehow luck into two wins at the end of the season.

They always do. Any Jets fan for a while knows this is what always happens. We start off with an ounce of hope, it quickly blows up, we go into tank mode, fans get excited about 1st pick...but then toward the end of the season we somehow come away with 2-4 wins out of nowhere to ensure we pick 6th. The fact that we almost beat the Bills is proof. We had no business even being in that game. With the Jets, the worst case scenario is what happens, so highly doubt we end up with Lawrence in any scenario.

I’m right there with you guys. I’m terrified we win a game or two. Ironically, after years of taking losses to them, I’m afraid we could beat the pats who were actually a disgrace yesterday. We play them on Monday night in two weeks. I’m nervous.

One things for sure we will get to 0-8. That’s half the battle. The other good thing for the Jets is it looks like every team we play down the stretch will be at least in contention for the playoffs so they will have something to play for. Even the browns can make it this year

Twice in the post game news conference Darnold said we have to adjust better to the other teams adjustments. I think 4 yards in a half makes that pretty obvious.

Only four yards more than I got sitting on my couch.
