2020 Jets

How long before Charley Casserly's consulting firm is involved? If only Douglas was left to do his job.

Whatever they do... just don't stick with Darnold

Its definitely not Darnold that is the main issue.  Look at Josh Allen his first two seasons. Ranked near last in nfl.   He was awful, inaccurate, etc.  The Bills built some of the Ol back and got him a ton of weapons and bills have a good OC.  Now he may win MVP.

ps.  Jets please stay away from Daboll....;-)

Don't like Darnold and never have, but this post isn't wrong. I think we have to go Sewell. There should be an offensive weapon available with the second first rounder. I just feel like the pressure to replace Darnold with that No. 2 pick is more likely than not to result in "same shit, different day." I'd still unload Darnold if the opportunity arose, but a line that has Becton and Sewell allows the team to ponder several different directions at QB. There will also be a weapon available for them at 34.

I've not been a fan of most of the top USC qb's that make the transition to the nfl.  They generally don't do well.  I think Darnold needs more of a chance though. Jets certainly can go a different direction but I'm not sure I'd use my first pick for it.  There are so many other needs.  Interestingly enough, even former usc QB Matt Barkley was able to drop scores vs Miami this weekend.  Get the O-line right as well as offensive weapons first imho.  It makes a world of difference when assessing what your young QB can or can not do.  I think it will almost be impossible for jets fans to do that but it's pretty much a rebuild.  Some areas are gonna suffer before others before building back up.

I agree with everything you've said, MCNPA. It's hard to assess whether or not Darnold is the "real deal" until you surround him with a solid supporting cast, starting with a competent offensive line and some quality skill position players. I don't believe that Trevor Lawrence (or any other rookie QB) would step in next season and be great right off the bat with the offensive personnel that the Jets have right now.

To me, the jury is still out on Justin Fields. I wouldn't draft him at #2 nor do I think there is anyone out there that is worthy of being the #2 pick. If the Jets are offered two #1's, a #2 and a #3 for the 2nd overall pick (which has been done before), I'd make that trade in a heartbeat. Until proven otherwise, I think that Douglas has a good eye for talent and believe that he will do a solid job as the GM (as long as Johnson lets him do his job and doesn't interfere).

I bet you Darnold does do well.. it just won't be with the Jets. Mostly likely the Patriots to torture me more.

Darnold might not be the problem.   Tannehill was a dissapointment in Miami because Gase tried to trun him into Peyton Manning.   He's just not that type of QB.   Could be the same with him.

Sam Darnold isn't good at football guys

from the person who said Fields stinks, nice to be so certain of people.

i don't know, if you are right or wrong on either of these two, but am willing to wait.

I'm looking forward to Fields throwing three picks against Bama.

I know a poster who shares that sentiment

I watched Justin fields play once against northwestern. And I wasn't sold. He definitely showed me something against Clemson though. I'd rather have him than Darnold at this point because at least fields is a dual threat which is where the league has been moving for some time.

I've been watching Darnold play for 3 years. I really liked what he did last year. Thought he was the guy. But he regressed in every way this season. He was statistically the worst quarterback in the league. We'd have to pay him soon. His rookie deal is ending. It makes the most sense for the Jets to restart the clock with a QB on a new rookie deal. Whether it's Wilson or Fields, I'm fine with either.

I recognize we didn't help Sam during his time here. He had a bad coach. A bad line. His best WR was ripped away from him because we didn't want to pay up. I get it. But it's best for both parties if he moves on. It's over

What do you think about the kid from BYU?

I like the BYU QB quite a bit. He has ridiculous arm talent, can make crazy throws. He can also run, he doesn't turn the ball over much.

the knock on him has been competition he's played being lackluster at times, but the best QB in our division is from Wyoming, so I don't know how much I care about that.

if we take fields or Wilson I will be fine with it. I just think it needs to be a Qb for sure

I'd go Wilson over Fields for sure, but I'm not sure the pick has to be a QB.

Yeah, its a pain.   Still working out fixes for the bugs the upgrade created.
