2019 Transfers

Per Rothstein

George Washington's D.J. Williams tells me that he will become a graduate transfer that will be eligible in December. Averaged 13.7 PPG and 4.7 RPG last season.

So he's going to transfer for 1 semester.
This is crazy

Well assuming he clearly does not like his current situation enough that he wants to leave even at this late an hour he probably doesn't feel he has enough time to make visits and then enroll in a new school in time for fall.

So he will suck it up for a semester and go to class at GW.

If he found a school really quickly and redshirts anyway, he could leave with an actual grad degree after 2020-21.

As has been previously pointed out we cannot have a team of all juniors. If we get two high level wings that are JC AA great, but the other recruits should be freshmen. I understand and support the need to get the very best talent this season and if it is Guess and Cole, fantastic, but we already have Steere, last years 3 freshman and Caraher who are sophomores this season. 2 more JCs will make it 7 next year, just too high a number in my opinion.

Be interesting to see rationale for this one if granted;

Tom Izzo told reporters earlier today that Marquette transfer Joey Hauser has filed a waiver with the NCAA with the hope of earning immediate eligibility for Michigan State during the 2019-20 college basketball season

Per Jeff Borzello re former Arkansas recruit

Kansas freshman guard Issac McBride officially entered the transfer portal today. Announced last week that he was leaving the program.

I am not sure I understand it, but here is a comment......

Izzo and his team are banking on a stipulation that could let Hauser play due to an injury he suffered in high school which allowed him to enroll in Marquette early. “We think that there are some legitimate things that Joey went though,” Izzo said.

FWIW.....in the article, Izzo acknowledges that it is unlikely.

[quote="Moose" post=358576]This one is an odd one and one to keep an eye on. Declared immediately eligible leaving PSU for Iowa State. Nothing about family or anything mentioned in corresponding article. Just that PSU supported the move.

Situation involved him an members of the Penn St coaching staff.

Inappropriate contact by staff members on him and other players is what I heard.

Interesting that Penn St supported the waiver.

Could that be a similar angle that Steere takes? With their staff having the hammer dropped on them at NC State?

Could be but that goes to my larger point about Steere. People think that because he played five minutes before deciding to transfer is what is preventing him from being eligible immediately and thus the basis for the waiver to play immediately. No. I think he has probably a two prong waiver going on.

One is to get the year back regardless of whether he plays in November or December. That is based on only playing 5 minutes.

The other could be based on something that none of use have any idea went on at NC St. Perhaps there was a personal conflict with the staff or something else that led him to abruptly decide to transfer. And it is those grounds with which he thinks he deserves a chance to play in November. Again just speculating. Or NC St is under investigation for the Dennis Smith Jr recruitment could he argue he did not want to risk staying at NC St and not being eligible for post season play. My larger point is the 5 minutes in a game is about getting the full year of eligibility back not about only having to sit ½ a year. Because whether he played or not has no bearing on having to sit a year after transferring. You have to do it either way.

Does anyone know if Raheem Dunn is seeking a waiver to be immediately eligible. And if so what the basis would be.

"Dunn has two years of eligibility remaining, and a unique situation. Dunn transferred from St. Francis Brooklyn to Cleveland State before last season, sitting out; Cleveland State fired their head coach, Dennis Felton, late this summer (July).

This spring, the NCAA explicitly stated that players whose coaches leave before fall classes start, but after enrolling in summer session can play immediately without a waiver."

Yes, he is seeking one. Presumably the basis would be that he already sat our last year and then his coach was fired, though I can't comment on how viable that is.
