2019 Transfers

Penny cleaning up.
Any room for Precious? Lol.
Penny is assembling either the team that can't miss or the 'collapse' of the decade.
And perhaps a transfer portal hotbed next Spring.
They'll be good, but what Penny's assembled isn't great enough to live up to either of those labels, at least not to a non-Memphis fan.
K fair point, LJSA. But while Penny’s class may not be on par with the Fab 5 or some of KYs or Duke’s classes, it’s more than ‘good’: Re 247: #s 1, 48, 56, 98, 107, now Tucker the #2 Grad transfer and they’re a finalist for Precious #14....more than good , imo and still working.
Penny basically raided his own AAU
Team to springboard this awesome recruiting class. Don’t get me wrong, it’s excellent and he’s parlaying his AAU talent to build a great class. Will that be able to be sustained in the future? Not sure, but there’s a good reason he’s been able to bring a bunch of big talent in right away.

I expect Penny to do very well at Memphis. Aside from his own name and AAU connections, his staff includes Sam Mitchell, former NBA coach of the year and a notorious hard worker along with Penny's former Memphis teammate Tony Madlock who brings more than 20 years experience as assistant coach at programs like Auburn, Ole Miss & UTEP. Time will tell, but I'd be surprised if Memphis isn't very good for the next several years.
Hyperbole like this make for great posts and discussion but really have no basis in predicting real results for this team. Nobody knows LJ or Herons decisions, still have roster spots to be filled and coaching spots as well.Even then we’ve never seen Coach in a competitive situation, let alone a BE game. I want success as much as anyone but many times posters get carried away with unjustified optimism on this site. Hope you are right though re Thornton and projected success.

How long does MA wait ,think he has to recruit as if LJ is not returning. We ca not let him think that we can’t love without him. yes, I want him back but the longer he takes to decides is hurt the team and coach
If he doesn't come back, we already have a guy waiting to show that he can replace him: Wright. At this point we aren't getting an available player who can replace Figgy. We'd be getting a player who can provide depth, and then hope Wright can pick up some of the scoring slack.

How do we know he’s not? McGriff’s name didn’t come up until a few days of his signing while Sears name didn’t come up until he signed.

...seems out of place on a sports fan board

Hartford has landed a commitment from Malik Ellison, a graduate transfer from Pitt. Ellison joins former high school teammate Traci Carter, another grad transfer who recently committed to Hartford.

Feels like a million years ago, but wasn't Tony Chiles trying to get both of these guys as a package?

Wow.....Traci Carter was a 4-star recruit coming out of high school. Goes to show that a kid's star ranking is not the end-all-be-all.

I remember our games against Marquette when Traci Carter went up against Ellison. Malik always tried to do too much going against a good friend and constantly turned the ball over.

In fairness ME turned it over pretty much against erbody.

Malik did have a few good moments the year he played with Lovett & Shamorie, most memorably that Wednesday night win against Georgetown in the BE tourney. Sorry it didn't work out better for him with Pitt and hope he has a good senior year with Hartford.

Wonder if this the start of the end for Danny Manning.
That guy is dead man walking. I don't even see how making the tournament saves him. He needs to get to 32 I think which isn't happening.

I actually think if Malik stayed here for four years, it may have worked out for him and for us. He could have helped us last year. Also, with the right coach, I think he could have been a strong 6th man.
