2019 Transfers

Braziller says we are going after Thornton hard. Landing him could be a game-changer for us, in addition to guys like Heron, Figueroa, Wright, Williams, McGriff etc.[/quote]
I haven’t been this excited since Lavin’s first full recruiting cycle. Full on boner right now.

Thornton can pass and plays pretty good defense. Less shots he takes the better.

Maybe TJ knows and he’s spinning it to Thornton?

Simon can help it appears

Zach
St Johns has expressed a strong interest in USC grad transfer PG Derryck Thornton, per sources. Texas Tech, Gonzaga, Vanderbilt and Boston College also expected to be in the mix. #sjubb

If the same person can let us know why he handles / drives with his left hand and shoots jumpers as a righty i'd be interested in knowing how that started

K was just thinking TJ may have a handle on the reasons.

Funny, I actually do the same thing. I am a lefty for most things, but shoot a basketball with my right hand, dribble with my left.

Bottom line is that the kid is a talented grad transfer whom we’d be lucky to add. Would add Big East level Pg(yeah maybe he’s a combo), to our mix of players that could make a huge difference. Hoping this happens.

Ideal transitional guard, hopeful a ton of minutes is appealing to Thornton

Gonzaga needs ready eligible guards with Zach Norvell staying in draft. As does SJU of course.

Hopefully get this kid to visit soon.

If he was older and a product of Catholic school, I'd blame it on the nuns lol. My older sister was an excellent athlete and a natural lefty who nuns forced to write right handed. As a result, she batted lefty and threw righty, dribbled lefty and shot righty. Thankfully that ended years ago...

Thornton would be that bigger guard who can play the point and defend. A home run if we can get him. Here's hoping. USC had a lot of talent. Maybe falloff was just a chemistry thing and change of scenery would be just what he needed as with Justin.

It's going to be hard beating Gonzaga for this west coast kid. However, he would be an immediate starter at PG with a solid frosh backup. He knows our AD from his Duke days so that can be a factor.
I think we will be pleasantly surprised by this staff's work ethic. A couple of more players and this team will be bigger and deeper than last year. Not knowing anyone from the staff is a breath of fresh air. No personal biases will give all a better view of what is happening.

It's funny. Looking at Thornton's freshman stats with Duke & stats last year with USC, they are similar except for a big uptick in assists per game. Just what we need. Not sure what happened in his soph year where he only played 14 mpg.
