2019 NY Mets

I really don't get Met fans shitting on Syndergaard for his lack of results this season. The guy is super competitive, is not trying to fail, but like a decent number of pitchers has is uncomfortable with the designated #1 catcher. Brody, the agent would have been pushing management to pair him with a preferred catcher.

A generation ago, priests at Sunday mass offered prayers for a horrible slump Gil Hodges was having in the 1955 World Series. Today, fans would be crapping on him in social media, because you know, we deserve a winner. No, we demand a winner. Because you know, all of us are batting .400 with 100 RBIs in our careers and personal lives.

I don’t agree that Mets fans are “shitting” on Syndergaard. I for one amongst others here were adamant about not wanting to trade him at the deadline. I feel he is talented with a huge upside. Hence, why several teams would gladly bid on him and take him in a heartbeat.

All that said, Syndergaard has inadvertently (?) thrown his teammate under the bus. I mean whether he intended or not to publicly say it he has called out Ramos. I don’t recall Ramos throwing a single HR pitch or allowing base runners to steal with huge jumps. I get his “comfort” is one thing but how about a little accountability about ones own performance? Contrary to popular belief, catchers suggest pitches but pitchers control the game. In spite of that, I still think most fans would tell you they want Syndergaard here to reach his full potential. I sure do.
Congrats to Peter Alonso for hitting his 50th homerun tonight!
For sure, and congrats to Calloway for taking deGrom out before even 100 pitches. Sorry win or lose, up 5-0 or not, he is an idiot.

That should wrap up this season. There’s always next year...

How do you rate Conforrto's season thus far? Falling under .250 after 1 for 20 plus at bats,
too many strikeouts.. Still has 30 homeruns and 83 RBI .

He has not proven to be a winning player. His "late and close" numbers are horrific and he's slumped badly in September. If you need a solo shot in a 10-1 game, he's your guy.

So the Mets, on life support if that, climb out of a 6-0 hole to 6-4 and Calloway brings in a guy with 37 major league innings who gives up a walk and a hit and is taken out. Brach comes in, works the inning to bases loaded two outs and fails to break immediately on a ground ball to Alonso and gets beat to the bag, two runs score. Unreal, just absolutely unreal.

Old enough to remember when Ed Kranepool led the Mets with 16 HR. All power hitters strike out too much, and Harmon Killebrew's lifetime average was in the .260's and he's in the HOF. I'd give me an 8.

Nimmo -CF
Conforto -RF
Davis - LF

Alonso 1B
Rosario 2B
Gimenez SS
McNeill 3B
Ramos C

I'm actually really OK with this.
(Of course, Cano will have to be in there, but one can dream).

This was my thought as well, but I need to be fair to Brodie. He identified the problem as being the bullpen, and went out and got the best closer in 2018. If Diaz was 50% less horrendous (a level of hideousness that NOBODY saw coming), then we would be playing bonus baseball.

Yoenis will be in LF. Injuries happen, so Davis will get at bats.

Regarding Rosario, MainMan Manifests Met Mentality! I wouldn’t move Rosario anywhere (remember Reyes to second for Matsui?) now that he is starting to live up to his potential. And as you mentioned, Cano will be at second. Like you I am ok (actually a little better than ok) with this lineup in 2020. Consistency across the entire team will be the key to success. There is hope for the future, just not the immediate future. And who know who we’ll get for Syndergaard...

MainMain, that line up will never happen for several reasons other than Cano. You forgot the 28 or 29M succubus in LF. If even remotely healthy Cespedes will try and play. It’s his walk year. My guess is he shows up. Number 2 Gimenez struggled at AA. Hit like .250 and below most of the year. My guess is they push him to AAA when in reality he is young for AA (20). Starting ML SS? Not yet. Lastly, you forgot Jed Lowrie. Yes, I know that’s easy but if he deigns us with his presence, Mets are going to use him. Something tells me BVW tries to justify the 20M contract.

Rosario has gone from awful to not-quite-awful-but-still-not-very-good in the 2nd half of the season. I don't think he has the range or instincts to be anything other than a mediocre shortstop. Gimenez is projected to be a huge upgrade defensively.

1. Cespedes is done. It's nothing but pig roasts, fast cars and insurance payouts in his future.
2. Jed Lowrie will still be getting his online degree in orthopedic medicine this time next year.
3. And Gimenez is going to tear up spring training.
4. Mark my words.

Rosario has been far better post all star break than you give him credit for. He's also 23. By the time his prime hits I highly doubt many people will refer to him as a mediocre shortstop

Surprised by the doom and gloom around here honestly. Young core showed us a lot these last few months. This team was actually fun to watch. We gotta get the manager out of here and have to do something about the bullpen.

But I am excited for what is to come. Like the young guys on this team.

I cannot help but be proud of the way this team battled after the all star break with a brain dead manager holding them back and a pricey closer not able to throw the ball straight. After witnessing the absolute disaster the Jets season has already become I look back on this Mets season fondly.

I don’t disagree with your premise but....
1- Mets owe Cespedes 29M so unless there is a lawsuit...I just think he tries to play because he wants more money from someone, anyone in 2021.
2-Don’t underestimate the power of money. Lowrie is already on the active roster doing....nothing. Nothing you, me or Jeff Wilpon can do about it. He ain’t passing on the 10M reasons to play next year..
3- Not sure where you are getting Gimenez “tearing up” ST. He is not a great hitter. He is young for AA. He hasn’t torn up AA yet. Your best argument is that he is a good defensive player. My money is on him in Syracuse barring injury.
4- l’ll circle back with you in April to see who was right. :)
